Janet Napolitano, Obama's head of the Department of Homeland Security, has some new 1984ish Doublespeak words that the administration is going to start using. This is straight from an interview in the USA Today newspaper from Tuesday.

The War on Terror will now be referred to as "Overseas Contingency Operations."

Terrorist attacks will now be called "Man Made Disasters."

I'll be writing my story on this in a few minutes.

Doublespeak and Political Correctness in the Obama Administration

Everyone can feel free to sequel and add in your own doublespeak.

I don't get why you're so surprised by this double speak. US Corporations, (I work for one now) have been doing this for years.

What's most annoying, is the term 'ownership' used in context as : 'You are a part of this Corporation. Treat it as if it were your home.' Which, broadly speaking means, do what we say and you'll be okay, until of course, a recession hits, and then people are out the door quicker than they can fart. And ironically, it's the people who buy into the bullshit who are the first to go.

We had a meeting at work one day when the Company I work for announced that they were introducing 5S.

5S is a Japanese Corporate model for a code of efficiency. The 5 S's in question relate to good business practice. However, the people in charge of the project couldn't get accurate translations, so they put their own spin on it.

Shift
Systematic Organization (Looky here, I spelt it in the American variation)
Standardize (Again)
Sustain.

WTF is that all about.

I was working one day when an auditor approached me and asked me to explain this. I told her I had no idea, as a kind of challenge. She scowled and asked me for my works number, not my name. (Shades of Orwell and Metropolis)

A shit house cleaner is now a 'Hygeine Technician.'

A gofer becomes a 'Utility Operative'

WTF is all that about? They'll have us doing fucking Tai Chi before we start work and chanting Kim Il Sung propoganda songs before we go on duty.
