I need some advice from anyone and everyone, if you please.

I am entering a photo competition where the prizes are to get a photo into the 'Countryfile' calendar for 2012.

The class I am going to enter is "Insects and Spiders" and the problem is which of the following photos to enter?

Photo 1

Photo 2

Please help, I have to post my entry by Monday 8th August.............

Oh, and if you want, you could tell me why you prefer the one you choose.

Many thanks.............

Birb - I liked photo 1, mainly because I thought the sunflower (or daisy) made the photo "pop" so to speak. I thought the other photo was good as well, but there was something about the negative space that made the bee get lost in the background.

What kind of camera do you use?

Just my opinion as an artist, however amateur I am.

Ellie

Good luck on the competition by the way!

I prefer photo one because of the balance between the light and dark colours. The yellow and the black contrast very well together and the light is good, too. The Brown and orangey yellow live harmoniously together in this photo. Well done.

Bees are always a good subject for country file. Excellent choice.

Ellie and Katarina, thanks for your comments.

I prefer the yellow one (can't remember if it is photo 1 or 2!!) but I was thinking that maybe the other one was better for a calendar!?!

I took these with a Fujifilm Finepix HS10.

I don't think the yellow one (which is what we all like so far) is inappropriate for a calendar. If anything, it's something, that once the year was over and I had to choose a picture to cut out of the calendar and frame....the yellow one is something I would frame.

I like both but photo 1 has more impact - the bee is bigger and the effect of the colour is very striking.

Well done for managing to photograph one of the remaining 3 bees. How did you manage to get it to pose for both photos?

Seems like I'm in a minority here, but I actually preferred picture 2.

They're both great pictures, but for me, number 2 had more of a natural feel about it. Number one just seems a bit "too perfect."

As I say, I,m in the minority and probably best ignored.

Skoob.

1. It's more dramatic. More immediate.

PS Skoob... I love your sensitive side (in a manly, honey-bearing way)

Sensitive side?

Pinx - the wife'll wet her pants if she reads that.

Laughing.

Regards

Skoob (And certainly not in a fucking gay way.)

Come to think of it - I've known a lot of gay people over the years, and most are intrinsically good people. But there was one...Sausage Boy they called him behind his back.

Couldn't stand the two faced cunt.

Crossed me, he did.

So I dropped him right in it. And the beat still goes on.

Ole Sausage Boy is about to have a very bad day.

Skoob:

Since we have left the serious side and crossed over to the spoof side, I believe there was also a PHOTO 3 of Kim Kardashian, Au Natural.

However, the "Countryfile" calendar for 2012 board of directors rejected PHOTO 3 as there were no Insects and spiders present!

Hiya Phil,

Probably a crab in there somewhere if you look real close.

Sorry Birb for diverting the thread.

Okay, I'll go with the flow and stick with piccy number 1.

But I still think 2's better.

Sensitively,

Skoob.

OK, thanks for all your comments, but I am a grade A twat.

I have just re-read the rules and it states "Entrants can submit up to 4 photos in total. Each photo can only be entered in one class"

NOT "Entrants can submit up to four photos in total. Only one photo in each class" as I read it.

So I have entered them both, plus one in the 'Landscapes' class.

This one, in fact.............

I'm a little late B, back from vacation, but I like number 2.

Why?

For me it's a contrast thing and a focal length thing. I think the colors pop a little better in photo 2, where they seem a bit dark in the first. Maybe that's the digital rendering and something easily repaired.

The Second Photo rocks just as the first, but I like the totally out of focus background, and the daily activity of the bee which is in high focus. You didn;t focus on getting the perfect "Bee Perched on a flower Picture", which for me, makes it stand out as unique. The colors are a bit more true, brighter, honest, un retouched.

Anyway, from one photographer to another, I always go for the unique perspective and Number 2 did it for me.

Peace, Love, Vegetables,
PM

Ellie, thank you.

Tommy, don't worry, they are not real Bees, they are just pigments of my imagination.

Thank you too, PoM, I prefer the same one. Although I like them both (obviously, as I took them).

Whilst I'm talking about my photos, here are a couple more.

The first one is of a snake that I met on Friday and the second is of my all time favourite subject.............
