I have a good friend from Carlisle, UK. He told me he doesn't really care about food with the exception of four things: anything lemony, a good curry, some sort of cheesy snack things he gets at the pub, and fajitas.

And ever since then, I've been curious....what are in fajitas in the UK?

It would be worth the airfare for me to find out...

Ellie,

Where I live, the fajitas are usually chicken.

It's usually char grilled chicken breast with hot chilli sauce and salad in a tortilla wrap. Extras like grated cheese are optional.

Skoob.

What are the fajitas like in Texas? I'm guessing, on the whole, both pretty good and pretty big.

Mr Lowton

How could you?

You just called me a bastard. You know I'm sensitive about things like that, being a proper bastard (verifiable on me birth certificate)

I was heartbroke, I say proper heartbroke when me mum called me a bastard. Not once, but several times.

If you keep abusing me in this way, I shall be left with no option other than to suspend your account for a week.

And I thought I was amongst friends....

Regards

Skoob.

Fajitas in Texas? How shall I begin... they are food from the gods. (Not to be confused with chocolate, which is food FOR the gods.) We can get them here in the form of chicken, beef, shrimp, or even pork marinated in all sorts of yummy Mexican flavors. They are served with grilled onions and peppers. Additionally, they come with cheese, pico de gallo (translates as chickens beak, but is just fresh diced tomato, onions, cilantro and a splash of lime), salsa, guacamole and sour cream.

The best fajita I had was made at the rodeo a few years ago....in some sort of cooker that looked like a big drum. Delicious!

You can get them here with either flour or corn tortillas (which is my preference).

Depending on where you get them, you also get some beans and rice on the side. If it were up to me, I'd have black beans. But, it's never up to me....here you're stuck with ranchero beans or refried beans.

Are avocados expensive there? They are here, and Mexico is only 7 or 8 hours away from me.

Yes. But can you get a decent scotch egg?

How's the diet, by the way, Mr Lowton?

enjoy.

This sounds like a good diet strategy.

Pretty much how I make 'em.

Apart from I use either prawns or Quorn, being the non-meat eating fish eating hypocrite I am.

A bit of lettuce too.

And I normally use Salsa de la Muerte or Iguana en Fuego for the marinade.............

Boy scouts like making them here as you can wrap them in tin-foil and heat them over a fire.

Doesn't that play havoc with the old fillings, Doc?

The dental ones, not the fajita ones.............

A Scottish egg sounds a lot like an Egg McMuffin.

And I googled Salsa de la Muerte....and all I have to say is HOLY CRAP! That has habanero chili peppers! I've heard that if you rub that on a bald man's head, it will grow hair. And not just normal hair! Wookie hair!

Ellie, that is a meek one.

Google 'Blairs Mega-Death' or 'Mad Dog 357 Silver Anniversary Edition'. These ones scare me every time I open the bottles.............!!

Can you actually hurt yourself with sauce? Are there disclaimers on the labels?

Your capacity for head-off chillies never ceases to amaze me.

You really are a bit mad.

Hope you're enjoying t'Egypt.

So, Blair's Mega Death actually comes with a warning to use sparingly! I'm intrigued. It promises to rock my world. Since it's been a while since my world has been rocked, I might give it a try. Any sauce that begins with "Are you ready to get your ass kicked?" deserves a try!

And, Dr. Jon, I actually have hurt myself while making salsa. I touched my eye after handling some jalepenos. Sad thing is, I'm not a rookie to spicy cooking. I was just distracted! It took a while for my eye to recover and I considered even going to the ER.

After coating the Scotch Eggs in egg and breadcrumbs DON'T FORGET TO DEEP FRY THEM!

Avocados are about $1.99 Canadian but you can get them on sale.

Fresh corn, fresh from the fields surrounding us - $2.50/DOZEN No need for salt and/or butter. Dip in boiling water for a few minutes. I sometimes eat it 'raw'. Sweet and delicious.

I'm hungry now....I've only eaten 4 oranges all day. Sheesh!
