"Debaser" - Pixies "I'm Waiting For The Man" - Velvet Underground "Personality Crisis" - New York Dolls "Supervixen" - Garbage "Typical Girls" - The Slits "No Fun" - The Stooges "Roz Roz Roz" - Asha Bhosle (with Kishore Kumar) "I Believe" - The Buzzcocks (Oh, what the hell, make it nine and ten.) P.S. Sometimes the saddest songs give the greatest relief. Just hearing a great melody, great harmonics, that's the secret.
Thank you QM. Great Thread! Charpa |

I really like that last one QM, but I like it by the Neville Brothers. They do a live version and the whole album is great. My wife always says she almost danced herself to death the first time she heard "The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle" by Springsteen. Also love "A Case of You" by Joni Mitchell. Lots of great Canadian songwriters. |

NMC I think it was YOU who introduced me to the Proclaimers and I just love their 'Letter from America'.
I've been on Youtube and seen them as they are now. (Andy Pipkin and The Proclaimers lol ) I knew - and loved - the song '500 Miles' but never did take any notice of who sang it until a few months ago. Mr. G. DID - he's way ahead of me when it comes to music etc. Music is amazing. LG |

Difficult one - I've got over 8000 on my iTunes.
To get me going (when nobody is around of course) Roll over Beethoven - Electric Light Orchestra I get by with a little help from my frends - Joe Cocker Born to be wild - Steppenwolf Thriller - Jacko How nostalgic I am plays a big part and perhaps how much I know it will embarass my son! If I'm in a Latin mood: Sonho meu - Maria Bethania La Colegiala - Any version Sodade - Cesaria Evora To satisfy the redneck in me: Steel Rails - Alison Krauss Mother Nature's son - John Denver Anything by Johnny Cash When the black dog descends: Mozart's Requiem They are at rest - Elgar To chill out Marwa blues - George Harrison Anything by Eric Satie Oblivion - Astor Piazolla Shine - Joney Mitchell Variations on a theme by Thomas Tallis - Vaughan Williams Five variants of Dives and Lazarus - ditto To make me laugh Anything by Spike Jones eg. Never hit your Grandma with a shovel Anything by the Bonzo Dog Band eg Alibaba's Camel There are so many to choose from and different situations. In the car for instance I'm sure the music affects my driving so watch out when anything by J J Cale comes on the radio! |

Rick Astley - Never gonna give you up (I even liked it before Rickrollin' was popular, nyar...but I'm not quite sure that's the point of Rickrollin'...)
Ben Folds - Zac and Sara Billy Joel - All for Leyna or We didn't start the fire. Aerosmith - Janie's got a gun (not quite a pick-me up song, I'll admit, I just like the story telling.) Handel - Messiah (Did a performance of this last year and I downloaded a very odd version when I was learning it which was sung by a computer using a text-to-speech sort of thing. Still, very enjoyable, albeit a little silly.) The more you think about the question, the more songs you think of. I think I'll leave it there with my total randomness laid bare. These songs tend to crop up most often when I'm looking for something to listen to. |

INcomplete works, surely? He used to be a neighbor of mine 25-odd years ago. Never managed to complete a sentence while sober. After one New Year's Eve party he went missing....along with a case of cherry brandy from the house. On 2nd January police were called to a garage off Perrins Lane 'because of a strange smell'. Eventually the door was opened and Pete was discovered huddled next to a calor gas fire. Needless to say the DeKuyper box was empty along with all the bottles.... |

Ah yes... So sad.. As you say QM...Pete certainly had his ups and his downs with his bottles and powders.. Especially that final 10 years of his spiral to self-destruction.. So instead, remember the bright times.. The best of his legacy... The genius.. |

Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Alcohol - Bare Naked Ladies I wish I was a Punk Rocker - Sandi Thom Love over gold - Dire Straits Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams When September Ends - Greenday Leave me alone - Pink Rockstar/Shakin' Hands - Nickelback Grace Kelly - Mika Importance of Being Idle - Oasis Sk8r Boi - Avril Lavigne Erm...loads more...I did 11 because I don't like top 10s, something always gets left out. I'm a bit eclectic. Those 11 will have me belting out along with them, but generally I live my life to an MP3 soundtrack. Shame I can't sing, because I can remember the lyrics to approximately 40,000* songs. Iain *This may be an exaggeration |
