I'm making a religiously delicate and potentially dangerous trip to Lebanon this weekend to appeal for peace and reconciliation in the Middle East as civil war rages next door in Syria.

I'm sure I will find a different country than the one my predecessor, John Paul II, visited 15 years ago.

But one thing remains unchanged; Lebanon is still divided along sectarian lines.

Ah well, it all goes with the job...
