One of my personal assistants read this for me, from Carter Askew, in hte Washington Post:
"In 2000, when people told me that the election didn't matter, I pointed to how each candidate would spend the surplus. At the time, few understood that these decisions were likely to guide the nation's fortunes for many years. George W. Bush had a simple plan: Return the money to taxpayers. These tax cuts, which disproportionately benefited the wealthy."
Well how was I to know...?
