As the Telegraph pointed out: As some of the world's most influential European policymakers descend on London on Thursday ahead of the Olympics opening ceremony, I will not be in a celebratory mode.

The Office for National Statistics is expected to say on Wednesday that the economy shrank by 0.2% between April and June, but privately my Treasury officials are expecting worse.
