I'm inconsolable. Brasil lost. boo hoo boo hoo boo hoo. Is there any reason left to watch the World Cup?

Commiserations. My Mrs was going mental during the match.

Thought it was a good game myself, but the Dutch pissed me off with their constant diving. I'd have preferred Brazil to go through, but there you go.

Funny old game.

Thanks. it doesn't help much, but thanks. Didn't like that Japanese ref one bit. Seemed every time Brasil got a good head of steam going, he'd blow that blasted whistle.

I had to walk away from the telly several times just so I wouldn't throw a shoe through it.

Ah well, on with life.

I've done a story saying the loss is good for Brasil economy because if they'd won, no one would go to back to work. Story should be up sometime today if Mark gets around to it.

That offer of a shoulder (or both shoulders) to cry on is still o the table, Charpa.

Skoob, that was no diving. The Brazilians set out their stall from the start with the kicking and carried on taking down Robben with sneaky/dirty and downright stupid tackles.

That chap stamped on Robbens leg when he was down.

Sure, VanBommel should have been off for elbowing Fabiano in the head and a couple of sneaky trips but the Brazilians were the ones masterminding the retarded tackling.

Just as I hoped: the Dutch intimidated the Brazilians by getting Robben to run at them down the wings. Brazilians showed what babies they are when forced to deal with a team that wasn't afraid of them (in the second half, not he first).

And the cheek of Robinho shouting at Robben to get up off the ground after his foot was blatantly dragged back by a defender! The cheeky little monkey!

Pass JB. I don't run with the enemy.
Dutch were doing their fair share of tackling.

I agree about the diving but that second goal was a goody - shame about Brazil but perhaps they needed knocking down a peg or two. It'll do them goo they were getting lazy. Same goes for Maradona's lot lets hope they get the boot of God up their arses too and we see a Spain Ghana final

Brazil were good in 1st half, but when the Dutch got amongst them, they weren't that good.

You have to admire the Dutch nous and graft - plus they've got some match-winning pace and skill. They'll be hard to beat.

Brazil are powerful, organised and have great skill, but today, they went to pieces in the 2nd half. If that'd been England, we'd have been cursing.

Charpa - if you support an ordinary football team week in week out you go through this kind of agony on a regular basis, and pay through the nose for it!

Oh believe me, I've cursed my fair share today.

There is already a joke out in Brazil, maybe I can translate to make it funny.

Dunga in Brazil is close to the word for Dopey, as in one of the 7 dwarfs.

The Brazilians are saying that they had Dopey for a coach and 11 Sleepy players, and ended up with millions of Grumpy fans.

I had my Mrs yelling in my ear all through the game. She kind of likes Brazil.

In my opinion there was a lot of diving in the middle of the park in the first few minutes by the Dutch. It's that old ploy about getting the opposition too nervous about putting a foot in so as to gain control of the midfield.

The Brazilians did lose the plot, fair comment, but when the guy stamped on Robben it was a stupid reaction borne of frustration at Robben's persistent diving. Every time he got the ball he was looking for a free kick, and went down at the slightest contact. On all barring one occasion when he actually was fouled but stayed on his feet.

The refereeing was poor. The Dutch stuck to their task, but I'd rather have seen Brazil in the semi-final.

Tonight's game was brilliant, or rather the last few minutes were. Most exciting climax to a game in a long time. I bet the Ghanaians are ruing those missed chances right now.

Funny old game.

I had my husband yelling at me to calm down, what with having heart surgery and all just a year ago, a little too much excitement ain't good. So I calmed down.

And then I watched the Ghana/Uruguay match. Now that one was a heart thumper. Loved every minute. Nail biter to the end.
I kept thinking it should have ended that way for Brazil, but instead it just ended for them with a fizzle. Not a good way to go out.

There is a difference. You see them as ordinary, and maybe they are. I see them as extraordinary and I'm ok with that, Erskin.

Forgive me for intruding, but Erskin isn't referring to the Brazil team as ordinary. He's alluding to football fans who watch their team week in, week out, over a nine month long season.

It can be agony - especially if you support a team like West Brom, or Leeds United.

yea, unless you're a player from Uruguay who forgets and tries to block a goal with his hands. Not the smartest play in the book. He should have used his head.

Ha ha!
Clever.

Poor old Ghana and Gyan.
I liked Gyan.
Seemed a lovely fella. Well, I only got that impression from the telly. He is probably a right bastard in real life.
If he had have just taken his time with the penalty it would have been all so different.

Uruguay are a one man team and rode their luck (oo-err!). Diego Forlan is really doing himself proud at this World Cup and deserves a whole lot of praise for his performances so far.

Gyan came across as a little smug to me. God gave him a smack down. Maybe deserved, maybe not.

He is the whole package, though. Talent and good looks. He won't be hurting for anything as long as he doesn't take the Tiger Woods route to famedom.

Hello, Charpa.

Smug? Hmmm, maybe 'Proud'. But I have the sneaking feeling that Gyan will never be seen again. He's 24, he plays in Fracne for Rennes, I think.
He'll transfer to some German team and vanish. He had his moment and thats it. Good luck to the chap.

I'm just off to watch Argentian V Germany now.

Tally ho!

PS:
Monkey Woods, I know you are lurking about somewhere. Come out an play, you little cheeky monkey!

I quit watching after goal #3. No sense.

Germany did to Argentina what they did to England. Sussed them out and exploited their weaknesses. Simple but so effective.

Actually, Skoob, it gets a lot more ordinary than that. Carlisle United for instance.

Very true, Erskin.
Germany whipped Argentina good.
Best team in the competition, they are.

I hate that Schweinsteiger's face but he has really grown into a Lothar Mattheus-type leader role. Fair play to Germany.

Hope they win the World Cup. They fully deserve it.
