A play at one of Germany's most prestigious theatres has ended in chaos after four actors decided "as an experiment" to substitute vodka for water during a performance about "one of the most famous alcoholic benders in world literature".

The Russian word for water sounds suspiciously like vodka. Easy mistake to make....

Hi QM...

all very interesting....

This boozing was all the fault of Russia
It's basic Stanislavski acting technique..

I know because my wife's Russian...

These Germans probably picked it up from the Moscow Arts Theatre..

On a similar downhill path,

Our American cousins (not J-man) got into heavy boozing
via Lee Strasberg's 'Method School of Acting ...
which dominated New York and Hollywood for many years..
and still does..

See Al Pacino, James Dean, de Niro...

Strasberg himself played Hyman Roth in Godfather 2 ...
if you want to see a good example of Method Acting..

Except Roth didn't drink... in the movie...

But I've a feeling Strasberg liked his vodka...

Serious drinking and Stanislavski always were natural partners...

(noted exclusively for QM on red Merlot)

I read this article this morning. I was having coffee in a well known branch of a global coffee shop and I nearly laughed out loud twice.

Russian booze ancedote from the UN

A true story.

Top UN lawyer addressing the UN Security Council circa 1981 or sometime very early in Reagan's first Administration about the continued threat from Soviet Union:

"The trouble is that on any given day half the Russian population is drunk!

!And the other half is thirsty!"

Small voice in audience:

"I know in which half I'd rather be!"

A Polish friend of mine said that when they were conquered the Russians lowered the price of vodka.
