Top US Military Commander, General David Petraeus has confirmed that the Iraqi government have implemented new laws that have banned violence in Iraq.

"This is a momentous decision that the Iraqi government have made for the Iraqi people," said General Petraeus.

Since the law was implemented at midnight today, there have been no reports of violence and the people of Iraq seem to be respecting the new law.

Gen Petraeus also said, "the fact that in December 2006, about 2300 Iraqis were killed and this month only 536 shows what great process we are making. With the ban on violence fully sanctioned by the Iraqi government I now expect no deaths at all in the New Year."

In Basra, militias and local police were reported to be sitting together and singing Paul McCartney's "The Pipes of Peace."

"This is what makes my job so great," said the General.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
