Washington DC - More and more American students are going to Vietnam to save money on college fees. They will be attending Vietnam U. The campus is actually inside Vietnam's reedeucation camps which have been busy ever since 1972. George Bush signed a student exchange agreement during his visit to the area a few weeks ago.
Middle class Americans have a lot less money at their disposal for college than do their Vietnamese counterparts however some consider the student exchange program to actually be just another out sourcing issue for Americans.
While in Vietnam I was struck by the love the Vietnamese have for Americans . Everywhere I went Vietnamese shouted out, "love you long time GI". The students are staying at the lovely Hanoi Hilton while they prepare to enter the reeducation camps. Some of the classes they will be taking are basket weaving and rope tying, manufacturing sandals out of old tires, and tunnel construction techniques. Mao's "On Guerilla Warfare" seems to be the favorite book among the students these days.
The US is also thinking about sending 1 million prisoners to Russia's Gulag and to China's huge prison system as well. They are talking to North Koren officials about taking over the messy job of carrying out the death penalty because they know how efficient North Korea is in this field. Outsourcing isn't just about exporting American jobs overseas anymore .
