Kenny Marsh, a Huntsville, Alabama ex-police officer and security expert, was showing off his gun collection on his first date with a present Huntsville police officer, Janice Harper.
Upon showing Janice a 9mm pistol that had belonged to his father who had also been a policeman, he accidentally dropped it while climbing back up a ladder and shot himself through the fleshy part of his left leg, though he thought he had the safety on.
"If you're going to shoot yourself, that's not a bad place, as the bullet went into the floor", Marsh told people at the emergency room.
Harper took Marsh to the emergency room at a near by hospital who fixed him up, but had to report the shooting. So, after returning to the Marsh apartment and being helped upstairs the two got a visit from two more officers to check out his story.
"It was quite a first date", Officer Harper told her buddies Monday.
"Will you date him again?"
"Of course, he's a lovely man."
"Well, if he tries on anymore 'safety devices', I wouldn't trust him very far."
