Yet another new group has entered the ridiculous debate concerning the state of dress or undress of female TV presenters.

As we have reported at length in this running story (August 26, September 1, 3, 5, 10 and 29) the whole issue was first raised by Bernard Frot, chairman of an Alice Roberts fan group who are hoping she will delight them by removing her clothes one day, possibly on BBC series Coast.

Fellow Coast presenter Miranda Krestovnikoff and historian Bettany Hughes have seen their names dragged into the debate.

When Mr Frot and two other rivals - Fred Ilkey-Moor and Lawrence Chondroitin - appeared at court on Monday to face charges arising from a fracas during a TV debate, crowds gathered to support or jeer them.

One of people in the crowd was Colin Verdi, of the Viewers For Kirsty Wark's Cleavage organization. Ms Wark is one of the regular presenters of BBC news flagship programme Newsnight - the show during which the brawl took place.

When we tracked him down at his Ipswich home, we put it to him that he and his colleagues were just another set of sleazy old men who just wanted to see their TV objects of desire naked, Mr Verdi said: "No, no, no! We don't expect Kirsty to get her kit off. Of course not.

"It would be totally inappropriate on Newsnight and we have far too much respect for her as a journalist for that.

"No. But, a bold display of cleavage from time to time would not be out of place - especially on the The Review Show, which airs late on Fridays after Newsnight.

"We seriously believe that she would help boost the show's ratings. Let's face it, she is in the entertainment business on that show - I'm surprised her producers don't repeat that old theatre refrain, 'more tit, love!'"

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
