There were ugly scenes outside the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire studios this week when an angry couple confronted a winner as she left the building.
In an episode to be shown in two weeks, Gemma Invoice managed to walk away with £250,000. After celebrating in the green room with host Chris Tarrant, her sister Lindsey and other contestants she went to leave the studios
A crowd had gathered at the stage to see Mr Tarrant, but a couple walked up to Gemma.
She says: "This middle-aged couple just came up to me smiling and said, 'That was fun wasn't it?' I said that yes it had been great and I felt very lucky. I went to move off, but they walked along with me and said 'Well?'
"Apparently they wanted some money! They said they had been in the audience and had given me the right answer when I used the 'ask the audience' lifeline at £500.
"I asked a security guard to help me get away them and they started getting abusive. The woman started laying about the security guy with her handbag and the man kept jumping up and down with a purple face."
The couple, Ken and Liz Bonkers, of Harlesden, north London, were questioned by police but allowed to leave later.
Mr Bonkers said: "What a selfish cow! We helped her out so we reckoned we were due a cut. It's only fair, isn't it?
"I thought a nice holiday would be the least she'd offer us. We always like Majorca."
Mrs Bonkers added: "Bloody tight mare! We gave her the right answer out of the goodness of our hearts - we felt sorry for her. We could've given her the wrong answer. What about that? Where would she be then?
"She walks off with a quarter of a million. I tell you what: my old mam always said money doesn't buy you happiness. Well I hope the baggage chokes on it!"
