Chris Evan's new Breakfast show has been accused of killing a pensioner's dog. The much loved pooch died on Monday morning, shortly after the show started. His 65 year old owner, Lucy Marbles, says he died of shock.
Lucy's dog, Mr Pooh, was one of the millions of Radio 2 listeners who woke up sedately to Wogan every day. But now Mr Pooh will never wake up again, after dying of a heart attack in Mrs Marbles' bedroom, at the tragically young age of just 9.
She says, It happened in the very first minute of the broadcast. Mr Pooh heard Chris shout "Hello, and welcome to the show", and that was the end. The zany, mad tone of Chris Evan's voice made the poor little dog jump 2 feet in the air, and he died shortly afterwards.
Friends of Mrs Marbles say her dog just wasn't used to that kind of energy coming from the Radio. Terry just wasn't that kind of person.
Mrs Marbles has been inundated with messages of support from fellow Togs (Fans of Terry Wogan), but, unfortunately, some of these messages have been from the more Millitant side of the fan base. They want to make Mr Pooh a Martyr for the cause. But Mrs Marbles has refused to let them do this.
She says she quite likes Chris, and hopes to enjoy listening to him for many years to come. She'd just like him to be a bit quieter in the mornings, so he doesn't accidentally kill any more dogs.
The Militant Tog protesters will be having a March through London on Saturday morning. The police are fully prepared for a riot.
