Bobby Charlton yesterday picked up his PFA 'Young Player of the Year' award and dedicated the honour to Sir Alex Ferguson.
"Sir Alex has nurtured me through my career and without him I don't think that I would still be a professional footballer. I think that I can still mature as a player and look forward to winning dubious refereeing decisions with Manchester United for a long time to come."
PFA Chairman Robbie Savage said "It was a close run vote, but we found out at the last moment that Billy Bremner and George Best were both dead, so Sir Bobby was the obvious choice." He added "Obviously it's important that we stay right up Sir Alex's arse, and this seemed an appropriate way of doing just that."
Sir Bobby Carlton is 21.
