The 2008 John Smith's Grand National gets under way at Aintree racecourse this Saturday April 5th, amid the usual controversy and kerfuffle over the safety of the horses, race-fixing and the unrelenting criticism of betting.
At the time of writing, there are still 99 horses registered for the race, but by Saturday morning many of these will have dropped out, run away, pulled up lame, been shot or, if they happen to be French, might possibly be on butcher's shelves.
The starting line-up will feature around 40 horses.
Pre-race betting is as follows:
- 2-1 Foregone Conclusion
5-2 Donedeal
3-1 Fixed-up
4-1 Crotchless Knickers
5-1 White Powderfreak
7-1 Mightwinifothersfall
100-1 Don't Bother With This One
500-1 No Chance
1000-1 Will Be Shot
5000-1 Earmarked For Meat
