For many years, persons suffering from Anorexia Nervosa (95% female) have had to live with the stigma of being labeled as "too skinny" or "emaciated." Members of this group have suffered depression due to their looks and feelings about their bodies. A new support group seeks to change all that.
The group, headquartered in the United States in Hollywood, California, seeks to ensure the ultra thin that they are beautiful the way they are. Founder and President Glenn Ross says that "these women have nothing to be ashamed about. We all know that they are wonderful, attractive people and that they do really turn on a sizeable segment of the population.
"We loved Twiggy in the 60's. Since then, we have loved Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow, the Olsen twins, and many other really hot, skinny women.
"Psychiatrists say that these women suffer from depression. In our organization's mind, there is no such thing as being anoxic and depressed at the same time.
"If you are anorexic, you can't get depressed because
- ...you don't like what's for dinner.
...you're too fat to fit into your clothes (even the ones from when you were a toddler still fit!).
...you were last in line at the buffet and can't get seconds.
...you'll never be accused of being the token "big, fat friend."
...you don't have to be embarrased if someone see's you walking out of Lane Bryant or Big and Tall.
...you can make fun of how fat Kate Moss has been getting lately.
...no one ever tells you that you are blocking their light.
...you don't have to worry about uneven wear on your tires, shocks, or struts.
...you don't have to buy lotion or sunscreen as often.
...there's more of the scenic landmark in the background in your travel pictures.
"See! There are lots of advantages to being anorexic! There's no reason to be depressed at the same time!
"It's the fat people who should be depressed. They're so gross they might as well just kill themselves."
