Although our stomach is well-equipped with a mechanism against gastric acid, sometimes its mucus gets badly hurt, allowing the acid to penetrate, violating a code of conduct called discipline.
Earlier this week Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, 38, married, two children, aged 3 and 4, twice injured in combat, with an exemplary military record, is accused of killing 16 Afghan villagers, some children. Bales pleaded not guilty. A next-door neighbor described him a "A good guy got put in the wrong place at the wrong time …"
Bob is a member of US Armed Forces, classified as the most modern and professional army of the world. US Army knows well that a member soldier needs to closely adhere to rules set forth as standard operating procedures, SOP, covering any imaginable area from personal hygiene to PR issues.
A veteran sergeant, at least, knows how to conduct in combat zones. Besides, Bob like any employee is closely watched by his superiors.
Anyway, Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, was stationed at a combat outpost which requires months of preparation, costing at least a million dollars.
General Allen, the commander of all U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan, after following Army Regulation 360-1, talked to CNN's Wolf Blitzer about the U.S. soldier who allegedly killed 16 Afghan civilians, saying, '…a single soldier left his combat outposts to shoot 16 Afghan civilians". Of course, Blitzer corrected the general by saying," What was his job, this sergeant, on a day to day basis in Afghanistan? Would it be normal for a - a U.S. soldier to be able to walk off the base (combat outpost)?
GEN.: He was detected. An Afghan soldier detected his departure and reported it, (in English?)!
BLITZER: - did anyone try to stop him?
Gen.: There - a search party was being put together immediately. There was a head count done amongst the American soldiers (in bed), recognized that he was missing, unaccounted for. We put together a search party right away and it was as that search party was forming that we began to have indications of the outcome of his departure."
We don't know what Staff Sgt. Robert Bales will say in military court. However, I chose the following option for Bob:
Sir, how could I murder children as old as my own? When you are marooned in a far away place that even the speed of thought fails to see in your mind's eye the family, I had no choice but to visualize wife Karilyn and my children in those poor children destined to live with their parents in the middle of the desert in a mud hut. They own nothing but 2 goats. They are starving. I admit I violated several SOPs. But I decided to get to them homes, mud huts, the leftover food plus some Army C-Rations. Sir, Afghan kids love'm. I used to do so it in the dark of the night. To disguise, I placed a blanket, like the Afghan shawl, over my head. They knew me pretty well and they loved me, too. I did enjoy watching them eat. This projection brought tears into my eyes. How badly I missed my family! When I returned to the post, I heard the shooting. Honestly, your honor, I am innocent. Ask them f*** greedy corporate mercenaries operating in…
