Liam Gallagher's new brother-free band Beady Eye has now had their first gig and released their first single and album to mixed reviews.
But it is the name of the reformed Oasis that I'm interested in. They could have carried on as Oasis - it's pretty much the same band with one (OK fairly important) member missing - but they decided to go for a new name and stop playing the old Oasis songs.
Fair enough.
However, the name Beady Eye lends itself to being abbreviated down to BDI, something nobody seems to have done yet. I'm sure that if there was an intention to also use BDI in reference to the band they would have done it by now, so I can only presume they don't like it.
And that's good enough for me.
I usually hate text-speak so the idea of abbreviating the name of a band down to a few letters doesn't sit well, But I'm prepared to make an exception in this case.
So from now on, whenever anyone mentions Beady Eye in print they should abbreviate to BDI. It won't change anything about the band or their music, but it might get Liam Gallagher spitting, snarling and swearing back to his best when he complains about it at every possible opportunity.
