Bagpuss, the baggy moggy purr, having consistently trounced all British theatre rivals since 1999 has been awarded the singular honor of being included in the Shakespearean Canon.

Old Bard Oxford scholar, Ollie Fartholomew was chosen to deliver the enthronement lecture at the Old Vic:

"BagPuss may have only had thirteen fits and struts upon the boards but yea what a mighty thirteen they were.

"Who will ever forget the moving tragic-melodrama when Miss Puss was raped, and robbed of her tongue by her attacker to hide his felonious identity in one of the first brilliant if developmental episodes?

"BagPuss in love, Bagpuss wrongly accused, Miss Puss in comic male disguise, Bagpuss the eloquent barrister, the cantankerous Cat-herine resisting marriage, the lovelorn and mad BagPuss briefly afloat on the surface of the pond before her tragic death and yes, her signature performance as the only loyal, royal kitten in a litter of sharp clawed feral female felines - all magnificent representatives of the still shining glory of the English theatre!

"Join me as we stand in homage to Miss BagPuss and caterwaul if you can, Bravo, Bravissimo!"

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
