According to a source inside a Los Angeles Police office, singer Billy Joel, who has wrecked his car three times over the past few years, has had a close encounter with the traffic cops and was arrested again, Monday.
Apparently Joel, was driving through upstate New York Monday when he spotted a police patrol on the side of the road and he immediately slowed down because of the speed he had been traveling.
However, the traffic cop was only writing out a ticket for another driver at that time.
Still, Joel stopped and went over to the officer and turned himself in to the officer, confessing he was a drunk driver and had been speeding.
Sure enough, Joel failed a breathalyzer test the officer gave him and was charged with driving while intoxicated, but not speeding.
When asked why he stopped, Joel reportedly told the officer that he thought it was a Driving While Intoxicated road check and he didn't want to be guilty of fleeing the scene," the police detective said.
"At first, I didn't know who he was or if he was drunk, but I sure knew that his judgment was certainly impaired."
