Paris, France - (Ass Mess): "There are no words to express my sadness at today's news," was Camille Marceau's website statement following the announcement that her octogenarian mime-artist father Marcel died at home in Paris last night.
All day long streams of silent tributes have poured in for the 84 year-old French comic genius who will be buried in Paris's Pere Lachaise cemetery later this week following a state funeral at Dotre Dame.
This morning the French Institut des Arts et des Lettres, of which Marceau was Un Grand Chevalier, announced that it is spearheading a country-wide tribute in the form of five minutes' silence across the land at noon on a day dedicated to national mourning, probably this Friday.
Retired Archbishop of Paris Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger will then officiate at the funeral at Notre Dame Cathedral.
And in accordance with Marceau's wishes, the entire televised service will be conducted in sign language with semaphore sub-titles for the hard of hearing.
"It's what Marcel would have dearly wanted," a family member said today.
