Legendary British stand-up comedian Lenny Henry, who Richard Pryor hailed as his true heir, has denounced critics who say he relies too much on doing a Jamaican accent in his routines.
Mr Henry said: "Dat ain't true, ya know mon." Speaking at the launch of a new nationwide tour, the comic added: "Me comedy is about all dem tings in da world. I not just rely on doing a Jamaican accent to get dem laughs, ya know."
Mr Henry is married to Dawn French, who was rebuked by Trading Standards for describing herself as a comedienne. In a separate incident, Jennifer Saunders was fined £100,000 by Ofcom for using the same script for all episodes of Absolutely Fabulous.
Mr Henry will be appearing at a bingo hall near you soon, and Ms French will be doing another TV commercial where she draws attention to the fact she's happy about her weight.
