Top paper industry executive David Brent has confessed that the hit BBC comedy series The Office was not in fact a comedy show after all but was actually a cinéma véritée piece.
Brent says that he invented the Ricky Gervais character a few years ago and he just seemed to get out of control. Now I have to dress up as him and go to award ceremonies and appear on chat shows. "It's doing my head in" wails a distraught Brent.
However he confirms the most draining thing of all is having to feign a friendship with overpaid and over-exposed BBC star Jonathan Ross.
"At first it was OK, the celebrity thing and all that, but now it's just become a real chore. Wossy's beginning to do my head in" says shy retiring Brent.
"I'd much rather have a quiet night in watching a DVD or something, instead of having to go out to the bloomin' BAFTAs or Emmys and pick up awards left right and centre.
When The Spoof asked him what his plans for the future were Brent said:
"Well we've a new temp to get sorted out and then it's appraisal time here, so that's going to see me up to my eyes for the next six months. After that, who knows?"
