The deadly Bearded Adder of the Zambezi was discovered, not by M. Hercule Leitmotif, but by accident in 1853, when Bertram Huysmans-Paffle, who was attempting to navigate Lake Kariba in a Welsh coracle, anchored for the night and disturbed one while he was dressing for dinner.

Best not to disturb a bearded adder when he is dressing for dinner.

It sets him off from casual conversation over the meal.

You will be lucky if he warms up by dessert.

The Tompkinson's Collared Water Snake, on the other hand, pays scant regard to convention, often appearing for dinner in the most deplorable state of deshabilee. Its table manners are shocking.

Good manners at the table or elsewhere are best shown by example.

That reminds me of the Moustachio'ed Garter Snake of the Wirral, which is known for its ferocity and orangeness. It is often mistaken for the rarer Bavarian Trouser Snake, which is the only snake whose habitat is made entirely of lederhosen.
