I'd like to share a very unique bit of irony and history here as it almost... but not quite hardly became a Spoof...
First, the current story the Daily Mail (and elsewhere) is about a small redneckville called Hampton, Florida. URL follows: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2577200/Welcome-Hampton-Florida-pop-477-The-speed-trap-town-corrupt-state-lawmakers-want-wiped-map.html Next, we go wayyyy back to the 1960s and another redneck wretchedville called Ludowici, Georgia. URL follows: http://www.atlantatimemachine.com/misc/ludowici.htm NOTES: On the last link, you can find an image of a billboard Governor Lester Maddox had erected at each end of town and at the top of the page, a click to listen to an old song that made the charts ever-so-briefly about this infamous speedtrap. One irony here is that in the '60s, it was US Highway 301 that was the bait for Ludowici's speedtrap. Today, it is that same highway... just south and in another state, that has again risen to same degree of infamy. For me personally, it is that the home of my youth was just down the road in Savannah, Georgia... and the home of my first wife was only about 20 miles from Ludowici itself. However... I was actually born in Florida... so all of this combined was enough to push me to do a spoof. I tried... I really did. Problem... it wasn't a spoof. I could have invented a few names and quirks but... it was just all to damned real! Anyway... just thought I'd share the dilemma of being too doggone familiar with something so freakin perfect. Edited: Typo correction .. |
