I have just acquired an oval spinnet by Frescobaldi Bastinado; it's already far and away my favourite instrument. I would even rate it above the virginals I used to own, which was a tortoiseshell inlaid muselar by Jens Mouldermann of Antwerp.
That muselar was a real beaut. It had the following motto TIC BOUNTEUM GLORIA NUNC PROSTRATUM (do not lie with Gloria, for she is afflicted with fleas) So you can see how highly I rate my oval spinet by Bastinado. I have little time for the ottavini, however. Too high-pitched. Coupling these with a larger instrument, to form the so-called double virginals, is, to me, simply over-egging the pudding. A virginals too far. |

I really liked that Erskin.. a glorious vignette of work/play.. and well worth the time you spent on it, especially here.. ..on the public 'face' of the Spoof.. regards CJ |

Balisimo! Piesano, I have futted the viola with the best of them and played to Don Carrisimo on the balcony of his villa. What can I do to help you with your strings/

Thank you chaps for your interest. Alas, I fear that we surrealists are a minority dying breed in today's super-bourgeois 2.4 kids Acacia Avenue squeaky-clean Spoof!

I attempted to play the recorder once, does that come close to your superb collection?
