so there I was, actually finding a couple of hours to write some more drivel, and all of a sudden the computer decides to restart with not so much as a buy your leave (I never wanted to sell my holidays anyway).

well, not all, but a lot.

I give up and go to bed.

Unclick the "Auto update" me old mate, it is a windows nightmare that should not have happened to a Scholar with such standing. I shall be writing to Bill Garden, or is it Gates? to remonstrate on your behalf.

Please do not send the money via the post office.

You can disable Windows updates by smashing your computer to smithereens with a claw hammer.

Mind you, it probably won't ever work again, but at least you won't be bothered by updates any more.
