20,800 hospital admissions in England over a 12 month period were for people recorded as having a fall involving a bed, provisional figures from The NHS Information Centre show today.

Further Weird NHS Admissions

Interesting list at the link I thought.

No, I was not one... honestly!

The amazing thing is that some oik at the Health and Safety Executive got the job of classifying falls to justify his existence and came up with this table:

W00 Fall on same level involving ice and snow

W01 Fall on same level from slipping tripping and stumbling

W02 Fall involving ice-skates skis roller-skates or skateboards

W03 Other fall same level due collision/pushing by another person

W04 Fall while being carried or supported by other persons

W05 Fall involving wheelchair

W06 Fall involving bed

W07 Fall involving chair

W08 Fall involving other furniture

W09 Fall involving playground equipment

W10 Fall on and from stairs and steps

W11 Fall on and from ladder

W12 Fall on and from scaffolding

W13 Fall from out of or through building or structure

W14 Fall from tree

W15 Fall from cliff

W16 Diving/jumping into water causing injury other than drowning or submersion

W17 Other fall from one level to another

W18 Other fall on same level

W19 Unspecified fall .

Skoob will be glad to know his argument with a lamp post comes under W18 so he's in there somewhere.

Thing is what the hell do they do with this data - geneticallt engineer trees? Warning signs on chairs? Whatever it is it probably costs the taxpayer billions. So if savings are to be made then why not start here?

I've got 2 W18's as well. Once when I fell down a flight of stairs in the dark, in the middle of the night, whilst 'refreshed' and another when I fell off that train.

Just sayin'

Skoob.

I had a WWWOOOOO

After 16 pints of Guiness, and two currys, the hospital bed did not stand a chance. Nor did the bed pan, it certainly altered the structure of the mattress.

A full on face pavement fall deserves its own special category. Especially when you're thinking of a lawsuit against pavement as a whole as it's obviously out to get me and hates me.
