For some obscure reason, I just thought of George W Bush. Probably the worst US President in history.
Thing is though, since his term of office ended, and he gave some open and frank interviews about his tenure, he comes across as a thoroughly bloody decent bloke. George - if you're in London on December 3rd, please feel free to pop into The Coal Hole pub in The Strand, and I'll personally buy you a pint. And I'll sort it so the writers sign your copy of The Dorking Review. Cordially Skoob. |

I agree - I like him better as a non-president.
Don't know if you've ever seen this - It's a fictional speech by Dubya composed of his actual quotes. The State of the Onion Address: George W. Bush Quotes |

At least he admits his mistakes. Like pressing the red button and nearly causing WW3. His secretary saved the day.
Thank god Arm xxxxxxxxxxxx |

I quite liked that film about him. It didn't come over as propaganda. Sort of like East of Eden in a way.

The longer American Presidents are out of power the more likeable they become. It doesn't work for British PMs, though. Strange. I wonder why?

Will Dubya get a Library named after him - that is the question.

His library is going to be in Dallas. Not far from where he's living now.
I have this theory that all US Presidents secretly hope they lose their second time running because they are so sick of the shit. But, maybe not. They all seem to age 20 years within the first 6 months of office. My folks met him once at some school board president's dinner in Austin at the Governor's mansion. At one point, my dad was looking at some kind of plates hanging on a wall (I think it was plates) and W came up to him and just starting talking to him about all the historical artifacts. All my dad could say was how genuinely nice he was. I disagree with his politics and made fun of his speeches, and I never voted for him....but I'd have a burger with him now. |

I think you are right about the second term. The trouble for them is that there are so many favours owing that one term isn't enough to repay them all. They have very little say in the Party politics.
