No-one could accuse him of being a friend to the sea-lion.

Or the Sea Slug. He was given a pamphlet by Josephine Du Beauharnais when he was on holiday in Saint Helena. Poor bloke must have eaten frogs legs as a pasttime.

His nephew, Louis Napoleon - the Emperor Napoleon III - spent a lot of energy, while in exile at Chislehurst, trying to prove that the the buggers were instrumental in his defeat by Bismarck in 1870.

I kid you not, Reb.
Ken Lucid writes... After the Franco-Prussian War, he and the Mrs, Eugenie, were forced into exile... they first went to Farnborough Abbey and ended up at Chislehurst, at a place that is now a golf club. In fact the only evidence they were ever there now is a road called Prince Imperial Way, named for their son, who died young in Africa. |

The son that died in Africa, was inadvertently killed courtesy of the British. As a possible heir to the French throne, should the monarchy be revived, it was felt that he should not be put into any danger. Fortunately, or possibly not for French republicans, he was seconded as a young lieutenant to the British Army during the Zulu wars in South Africa. Despite warnings, he went off with a small patrol to look at a settlement that the Brits had trashed the day before and was ambushed by Zulu warriors who had presumably returned to salvage the telly and the jewellery box from what was left of their homes. All of the other members of the patrol got away, but the young Bonaparte was found dead on the ground with six spears stuck into him. They've never really forgiven us. The French that is. |

That's right.
I've often wondered, clearly because I read the wrong stuff, if the current Eugenie was named for the Empress because she and Louis Napoleon were such friends of Victoria. |

In my young days we used to fly around Chislehurst and Sidcup clubbing. One Friday evening we went to the Chislehurst caves, but noticed that an unknown guitarist was playing so we headed for the Railway Inn at Sidcup instead, they used to serve a wicked pint of JC (John Courage). Guess who was the unknown guitarist:::::? Jimi Hendrix, I've been beating the shit out of myself ever since!!!!!!
