These sensational musicians did it again with their Mahler 2 "Resurrection" on BBC2. Magnificent.

It will be available on BBC iPlayer soon. Give yourself a treat and watch it.

Sorry CJ

Although forewarned, spent the evening in rehab with Amy Winehouse.

It's what happens when you marry a former jazz singer...

Maybe catch it on BBC iPlayer...

Sorry about that.

Regards

Skoob.

dudamel and simon bolivar

Yes, it is loud. They only had 145 on the main stage, another 49 were playing on the balconies.

The video has the entire orchestra running riot with Tschaikovsky 4 - now that is loud.

I just watched this on the BBC iPlayer, with the sound cranked up.

There's no doubting that it's good. Some sublime interludes. An enthusiastic and youthful group of performers.

Call me a cultural pleb if you will, but for me, Beethoven is, was and always will be the man. Ole Ludwig still has a finger in every pie. He could romance you or start a riot.

Mahler was good, some sublime moments, but Beethoven could do all that in a quarter of the time.

I love all music, but when it comes to the classical variety, there's only ever been one Governor.

Beethoven.

Discuss.

me and mad Albie once made comparative timings of the slow movement of Ludwig's Fifth.. Can't remember the exact details.. But there was about a 5 minute difference between the Karajan version and the Karl Bohm. That's rather a lot btw....

Me.. I like me Beethoven slow and meaningful.. Rubinstein and Schnabel's fourth piano.. and Emperor.. before Ashkenazy and Barenboim. But Argerich at full belt takes some beating.

Ludwig's funeral march I prefer to Chopin's. Love funeral music.. And the late string quartets.. obviously..

But I don't compare me composers.. I got so many that it'd be stupid. Like the old vocals too much. Bjoerling and Callas well worth a listen. Rock'n'roll opera stars..

The SB Orchestra were superb. As were the two scan totties.

Great to see the ABBA front-line back.

I still would (particularly the blonde).

Have PM'd you guys.
