I have to get this off my chest, but it really upsets me that the US government promised to take care of the 1st responders from 9-11. Now they are getting sick with cancer, and what does the bill not cover? Cancer! This guys who worked day after day hoping to find survivors at the World Trade Center are getting throat cancer and lung cancer. Yet the bill won't cover the cancer because it's "not proven" to be caused by the cancer causing materials and fumes they were all inhaling for weeks and weeks.
Its things like this that annoys me beyond measure, and makes me wonder if anyone really believes in "do unto others" anymore. Thanks for listening. All of my friends are asleep. Ellie |

Know what you mean Ellie, although not familiar with the details.
Here in the UK we had something similar when servicemen were exposed to radiation from nuclear weapons testing in the 1950s. Successive governments sidestepped the issue for decades. Many of the men have since died. I still don't know if the question of compensation/liability was ever resolved. Governments should pull out all the stops to help these people, in my opinion. Then there's the current financial mess, which more governments see as being the most pressing matter to be dealt with. Agree though - it is a sorry situation. Regards Skoob. |
