Fire all Frencj teachers - how many kids leave school speaking French? Here they all speak English and you won't find a German, Dutch or Belgian, nor Dane who can't speak it.

Send they Chavs over they'd learn to speak it properly then
innit?

Now that, that, is my entire school career of French.

I have an A in listening, and B in Speaking, Writing, Reading

Cinq ans! Mon petit ami...cinq ans.?..Non! Quinze ans je crois.

Ich habe auch Deutsch. Ich bin ein Berliner (not really - don't even eat the darn things these days).

That gap was where I signed "I also know sign language and use it every day".

My Swedish is a bit rusty.

But French did come in handy because I supply taught French for quite a while...so I can't complain.

Dorothy Parker? Weren't she 'Merican?? She died the year I was married. Hmm! Strange!
No...sorry...2yrs. before I was married.
Gonna find our more 'bout her. She sounds like she was a fun 'Merican.

LOL

I Googled her and she seems to be have been a woman I would have loved to have met: Found lots of her quostes. Here's one:

Razors pain you,

Rivers are damp,

Acids stain you,

And drugs cause cramp.

Guns aren't lawful,

Nooses give,

Gas smells awful.

You might as well live.

I can speak Bengali too, but it's hard to write Sanskrit-based languages using a Latin-based keyboard.

I'm 2.5-lingual. I haven't actually gotten my French GCSE results yet. I'll tell y'all in August.

Also, what about my joke? No-one had actually said anything about it.

Sorry IH. I didn't GET the joke. I Googled Humanities and got this:

The humanities include ancient and modern languages, literature, law, history, philosophy, religion, and visual and performing arts such as music and theatre. The humanities regarded also as social sciences include technology, anthropology, area studies, communication studies, cultural studies, and linguistics. Scholars working in the humanities are sometimes described as "humanists".[1] However, that term also describes the philosophical position of humanism, which some "antihumanist" scholars in the humanities reject.

I read it...but still didn't get the joke. So sorry!

I must be much 'thicker' than I first thought.

Herbert Morrison commentating on the Hindenburg disaster:

It's practically standing still now. They've dropped ropes out of the nose of the ship; and (uh) they've been taken ahold of down on the field by a number of men. It's starting to rain again; it's... the rain had (uh) slacked up a little bit. The back motors of the ship are just holding it (uh) just enough to keep it from...It's burst into flames! Get this, Charlie; get this, Charlie! It's fire... and it's crashing! It's crashing terrible! Oh, my! Get out of the way, please! It's burning and bursting into flames and the... and it's falling on the mooring mast. And all the folks agree that this is terrible; this is the one of the worst catastrophes in the world. [indecipherable] its flames... Crashing, oh! Four- or five-hundred feet into the sky and it... it's a terrific crash, ladies and gentlemen. It's smoke, and it's in flames now; and the frame is crashing to the ground, not quite to the mooring mast. Oh, the humanity! And all the passengers screaming around here. I told you; it - I can't even talk to people, their friends are out there! Ah! It's... it... it's a... ah! I... I can't talk, ladies and gentlemen. Honest: it's just laying there, mass of smoking wreckage. Ah! And everybody can hardly breathe and talk and the screaming. Lady, I... I... I'm sorry. Honest: I... I can hardly breathe. I... I'm going to step inside, where I cannot see it. Charlie, that's terrible. Ah, ah... I can't. Listen, folks; I... I'm gonna have to stop for a minute because [indecipherable] I've lost my voice. This is the worst thing I've ever witnessed.

Erskin, reading that gave me goosebumps. I remember the historical 'footage' but hadn't heard that commentary.

Iain...congrats.

I taught myself some Swedish so as to be able to converse with my Swedish friend's family, as the older ones didn't speak English. We visited them 4 or 5 times years ago.

I was told I spoke Swedish perfectly The King's Swedish...(the bit I'd learned) the thing is the L.P. I had used was an American 'teacher' but no-one mentioned that I had an American accent in Swedish so it can't have 'come through'.

I love languages.
