If you keep repeating a word, it tends to lose its meaning.
I think it was Tennyson who used to sit in a chair and repeat a word over and over, in a kind of meditation. The word may have been "walrus", I don't know. It could have been "mutton" for all I know. Or "Gladstone". Anyway, now I've forgotten what I was going to say. Ah, yes, I was also going to say that a word tends to lose its meaning if you leave it on the bedpost overnight. I was going to say that but I am no longer going to say it because I have said it now! Words, eh? Drive you crazy if you let 'em! |
