Just spotted this story on Yahoo:

"A shop in the US state of Alabama on Tuesday launched a Valentine's Day offer it hopes will trigger a large response in a limp economy: customers can swap their guns for sex toys.
""In today's economy, this is a way of helping people who may feel they can't afford something for Valentine's Day," said Sherri Williams, the owner of the "Pleasures" sex toy shop, where assorted erotica during the next week can be obtained in exchange for cast-off firearms."

Am I the only person made slightly nervous by the idea of someone called Sherri who works in a sex shop having ready access to a small arsenal of high calibre firearms on February 15?

Hi Cassandrova,

Just Googled that story. Looks legit. Wouldn't surprise me, but yes, I agree that it is bothersome that a private citizen would offer to take guns off the street. She says that any guns that were stolen or used in a crime would be turned over to the police while she would refurbish and sell the other guns to responsible owners.

Sorry, but this sure does sound like a spoof. For one thing, how would this woman be able to discern which guns were legal and which were not? And, I'm no authority, but I'm pretty sure that in addition to her license to sell sex toys, she'd also have to have a license to sell guns in order to carry out her mission.

I'm just not buying it (no pun intended).

And, for the record, Valentine's Day in America is Feb. 14.

It was an interesting read though. I'm providing a link to the newspaper article mentioned in the Yahoo story...

Hi Charpa

Yeah, I know it's the 14th. I just had this vision of Sherri going into her shop the day after and gloating over the pile of guns she'd amassed the previous day. LOL

Interesting point about how would she know if the gun was legal or not. It's not like someone's gonna walk in and say: "Can I exchange this Magnum for a dildo. By the way, it's a really good gun - I used it to rob the 7-11 last week."

Glad to be living in Canada. Mind you, having said that, I work in a rural area where there are guns in MOST houses and a number of children go hunting with their parents from a very young age.

Actually, I DO feel much safer here.

Nobody has a gun here. Even getting a gun illegally is damn hard. Guess what? Who has a low homicide rate? We do. Who has had only THREE serial murderers in the past 15-20 years? We do. Who has the strictest gun control in the world? We do.

I'm a Spoof writer, not a statician, but I can see some causation here.

Wait, guns for dildos? Oh, that's very, very insane. I know a place that does money for dildos. I know, unheard of.

I can't help but think that using a gun to get any kind of product from a shop is normally known as Armed Robbery.

Just sayin' *
