I've always wondered why people who drive 'convertible cars' do NOT have to wear helmets.
Is this because they are SO THICK that people HOPE they die from brain injuries in an accident. It just doesn't seem fair. Kids on skateboards and cyclists etc. HAVE to wear them....but NOT POSERS IN CONVERTIBLES. There is something wrong with this picture. LG |

Well they have seat belts and most of the time roll protection bars.
Why do motorcyclists not wear seat belts? True enough though if you're going to have health and safety it's all or nothing. Even Sikh Police officers in the UK have specially beturbanned helmets |

I know what you are saying, re: bikers without seatbelts...how FAR DO we go?
Our schoolbuses don't have seatbelts yet...and many of us think they really should. Children can't make the choices about their safety. Mind you...in the area I teach, most folk don't believe in wearing seatbelts and young kids are zooming around on skidoos, quads etc. 'under age' and encouraged by their parents. They drive tractors from a very early age too. I drove home 2 nights ago and saw a fella driving , what could have been a small quad, towing a sled behing him on which sat a child who looked to be about 3 or 4. Sad but true. Also...not all convertibles (sedans etc.) HAVE roll bars. LG |

If you ride an ox on a public highway at night you have to have lights, so why not seatbelts too?

I don't see the problem, since smallpox and the black death were eradicated and sars, bird flu and the swine flu have all failed to live up to media expectations I think we need every bit of help in the area of population control that we can muster.
A bit of leniency on the Health and Safety side could actually be a good thing, not all safety helmets are essential. People who ride horses on public roads for example should be exempt from wearing safety helmets. It can only improve the gene pool. |

Yeah! I kinda know what you mean. We'll ALL have to wear protective gear soon, just to leave our homes.
That's kinda wot I was meaning in a strange way.... LG |

You are immediately given a ticket if you do not wear a seatbelt in Kentucky. The police even watch to see if you have a strap over your shoulder.
But you can have six kids riding in the bed of a pickup truck throwing snowballs at you while standing up. Crazy world. |

It's more difficult to fall out of a car, plus you have a big metal shell around you to protect you.
It's safer not to. If you have a crash it is safer to get thrown clear as you don't have as much machine in front of you as in a car, nor a windscreen to crash through.
You can't wear a seatbelt on an ox, as you would have animal extremists chasing you when they saw how you bolted the belt to the beast thus making it infinitely more dangerous............. |
