Yep.
Point blank range.
Must be the start of the 2012 White House campaign for someone.
Bush Family Evil Empire, IMO.

At a fucking community event. Reaching out to her community, her constituents. At a fucking GROCERY STORE, for fuck's sake.

Dammit.

I just...

Angry, afraid, pissed, disgusted, despondent, all rolled into one. For starters.

Here's the Huffington Post's article, with frequent live updates and even more frequently added reader comments.

Thanks for that AR. I checked it out. Had videos that the guy had put on YouTube and even a picture of him. Weird when you put a face to a person.

This whole day has been wrenching. Not only for the tragedy of the shooting of innocent victims, which I don't want to take anything away from the, but also for the fact that the America I grew up in is getting uglier by the minute. Without trust of our fellow man, where the hell do we end up? Can't even go see someone speak in front of a friggin' grocery store in your neighborhood? What the hell?

If you still harbor any illusions about the intelligence and/or sanity of the human race, grab your security blanket and whimper. From the current (1:45 a.m. Central Time) version of the HuffPo article:

During his campaign effort to unseat Giffords in November, Republican challenger Jesse Kelly held fundraisers where he urged supporters to help remove Giffords from office by joining him to shoot a fully loaded M-16 rifle. Kelly is a former Marine who served in Iraq and was pictured on his website in military gear holding his automatic weapon and promoting the event.

"I don't see the connection," between the fundraisers featuring weapons and Saturday's shooting, said John Ellinwood, Kelly's spokesman. "I don't know this person, we cannot find any records that he was associated with the campaign in any way. I just don't see the connection.

"Arizona is a state where people are firearms owners - this was just a deranged individual."

Dear Dawg in Heaven. We're doomed.

Ya don't think, Mr. Ellinwood, that encouraging shotgun-themed campaign rhetoric might influence deranged individuals to think along those lines in a more literal fashion? That maybe it's inappropriate to speak, even metaphorically, of "shooting down" a political opponent?

I'm still hoping that most of the American people are more adept at connecting the dots than Mr. Ellinwood.

Well, at least she's alive.....

Here's another miracle bullet story:

Italian man shot in head sneezes out bullet

An Italian man who was struck in the head by a stray bullet during New Year's Eve celebrations is recovering after sneezing the projectile out of his nose.

I'm assuming a lot of gun owners know this, but I wanted to comment on something my husband told me.

He said that the congresswoman was lucky that the shooter decided to fire at point-blank range. That was a better option for her. Why? He says that when a bullet is shot from a pistol such as that from a distance, the bullet begins to spiral and when it reaches its target it makes a wider hole due to the spinning.

At point-blank range, depending, of course, on where the bullet enters the body, it doesn't have time to spiral and therefore creates a cleaner, smaller hole and usually has enough momentum to exit the body quickly, causing much less damage.

don't know if he's right or not, but in Giffords' case, I can see where it does have some merit and thankfully so.
