Thanks, Skoob. I'll raise a glass to you as well. Unfortunately, the U.S. economy is so bad, I've nothing to put in it but tap water. |

Had a nice tribute to the troops down at our marina today....donated $ and also bags of toilet articles, snacks etc. for the guys. Even had a Irish Priest (!) Father Pat swing by to bless everone, as well as the boys oveseas.
Father Pat sends his regards to Skoob, of course, but refused to talk about Fergus.......sore spot there I reckon! |

Thank to the Brits for the well wishes on ***INDEPENDENCE DAY***
Remember,.... "If you go forth on the fourth with a fifth, you may not come forth on the fifth." (I think that was from Dean Martin, but am not sure) |

You're welcome.
We Brits tend to embrace other cultures. We know who our friends are in this world, and the United States is a precious ally. Happy Independence Day to you all. Regards from across the pond, and have a great day. Skoob. |

Skoob,
Thanks to my great esteemed friend. You have always been nothing but a "Class Act." You are what we call down here in Texas as one of the "Good ol' Boys." My wife and I are spending the July 4th weekend up in Austin. Take care Amigo. Hasta Later, Abel |

Jalapenoman,
Ah yes Austin's infamous 6th Street! J-Man, that is exactly where my esposa (wife) and I are headed. I know my neck will be sore in the morning from going back and forth like at a tennis match. We were out this afternoon at the Round Rock Outlet Mall and it sure does appear to me that the girl's shorts are getting shorter and shorter. Glad to see you back J-Man, you are "El Hombre." Hasta Later, Abel |

Thanks from me too to our friends across the pond.
Hey Abel, I live like 5 minutes from the outlet malls you went to in Round Rock. Tiny little planet eh? We'll be headed to Settler's Park tomorrow for fireworks, although may just stay home and view from second floor roof. Have a safe one everyone. Charpa. |

Charpa,
I remember you mentioning that you lived in Round Rock. It is a very nice town with a lot of friendly people. The mall is quite extensive. My wife found a lot of great July 4th sales in many of the stores. Charpa I hope you have a great 4th of July Holiday. Take care. Hasta Later, Abel |

Yep, not a bad little town at all. Very safe, very friendly. Hope some day to get down to San Antonio to take a look around. Only time I've been there is to fly out of the airport. I hear it's a fun little town too. Lots to see and do in Texas. Cheers, Charpa |

Strangely enough I have a little story to tell. About connections to America.
Some time ago I started doing the genealogy of the family of my mother. Her surname was a strange one - Bangs. Working backwards I found much as I expected a lineage firmly rooted in the rural poor. Then my daughter took up the relay and she managed to trace them back to 13th century east Anglia where a certain Augustin Bangs had been sheriff of Norwich. Following his line forward she came to Edward Bangs (b.1591) of Panfield Essex who sailed in the ship 'The Anne' that arrived in Plymouth in 1623 after the Mayflower. He therefore was one of the founding fathers and there is much about him in the Pilgrim Museum. He was about 15x great Uncle of my mum. So it gives me pleasure to salute you all - particularly my highly removed cousins among you on the celebration of your independence. There is also a fly in the ointment however, for it means that I will have to add my name to the website "spawnofthedevil.com" that lists all those unfortunate enought to be related to George W Bush who can also trace his line back to Edward Bangs. I might write something about this in a mag article sometime - you can't imagine the traumatic effect it had on my daughter who had otherwise been going around just casually inserting into and manipulating conversations around to "Oh did I ever tell you that one of my relatives was a Founding Father". That said, I shall also on the 14th be saluting our other special relationship with the French. Who knows if I trace my missus's family back we might find she is related to Robespierre or Richelieu. Cheers and have one on me |

I used to visit the Petco in Round Rock once a week on the way to San Antonio. Funny thing you should be having this conversation today on July 4th, because I was in the area on July 4th, 2001, to celebrate Independence Day with someone that I still think about too much. We had some in-season (hint, hint) Fredericksburg peaches we bought by the side of the road about 60 miles West of Austin - best peaches you ever tasted! Then we ingested miscellaneous intoxicants and watched professional grade fireworks on a huge piece of land owned by the father of someone we knew. Yee haw! On the way home, we visited Marble Falls, which we discovered has no falls, as they were submerged to allow drag boat races - but not in a gay way, in a 'yee-haw' way. Turns out there is no marble, either. Rather, the primitive Texas geologists couldn't tell their arse from a rock in the ground. On the other hand, we visited Enchanted Rock. Except for the peaches maybe, this was the trip's highlight, and definitely makes my Top 5 coolest natural landmarks I've been lucky enough to experience so far. The Wikipedia pictures don't do it justice. As you approach, it resembles a gigantic oval pebble against the starkly flat landscape - that's actually just a few minutes from "hill country." The Vernal pools on top of this huge rock fascinated me. The climb is worth it for the breathtaking views alone, if you're into that sort of thing. Any way, I hope everyone had a nice time watching stuff explode, either up close, or at home on TV or the Internet. Happy Independence Day. They should call it Financial Independence Day. Those are the people who really get to enjoy it! ********** ********** ********** ********** ********** GOD BLESS AMERICA "Land of Opportunity" Wait, scratch that. "Just Be Thankful You Have a Job(s)" If I didn't moonlight as a writer here at The Spoof, I'd be almost completely broke! nlol |

By the by, Abel and SFO,
If you ever plan on being in the area again, and I'm still here, get in touch and me and the mister will treat you to an old-fashioned barbeque Brasil-style. It'd be good to meet some luminaries right off the Spoof pages. |
