I have noticed a lot of writers on the spoof do stories about their cats. Writers always seem to prefer cats to dogs and other pets. What do you think?

Dogs.

Dogs are faithful companions. Cats are demon spawn.

All dogs go to heaven. All cats go to hell.

A dog will always have a friendly grin and a wagging tail for his master. A cat will glare at you.

A dog comes when you call him. A cat will glare at you.

A dog asks for your attention with a wet tongue and a wagging tail. A cat demands you worship it.

Dogs are a man's best friend. Cats want to be our masters.

Cats are independent, come and go as they please, can't be fooled into man's best friend sycophancy and shit a hell of a lot less than their canine counterparts. AND they always bury their excrement.

Some cats hate humans because they can instinctively tell a 'dog person'!

Dogs need walking and a lot of attention. Plus their breath smells.

Having said that I've had both dogs and cats as pets and tolerate the endless oneupmanship feuds between the species.

One of my fav cats used to go pheasant stalking, always brought me its kill properly garotted and ready for plucking/the cook pot.

Another used to wander off for a mile or so to the neighbor's stream and catch brown trout, bringing it back like a safari trophy.

Cats have always been working cats Chez Mudder, catching vermin, spiders and moths etc.

For that I am eternally grateful!

Good One Spectrum,

There is nothing really, like the dog's awareness of human emotion. After a particulary horrific day, the dog will approach you with tail-a-waggin to bury his face into the back of your knee, letting you know that there is at least one mammal on the face of the earth who thinks you are still pretty OK. Children under the age of 6 tend to think you're pretty cool too. (Not trying to lump children and dogs into the same category so just chill)

Cats, at least the ones I've lived with, might give you a brush on the pant leg, but that's just a reminder that their food dish is empty. I'll stick them in the OK category but I'd rather have a trainable and loveable mutt any day. Mostly because I am one.

All of them in the world already did. There are no more cat lovers (except the Vietnamese, and they love them with soy sauce).

I love cats AND dogs.
I just love ALL animals.

And I particularly like using BOLD CAPITALS to make my point.

A recent study by New Scientist (presumably in an attempt to win an Ignoble prize), concluded that the average dog is more intelligent than the average cat. Which was quite surprising.

But it basically comes down to dogs can read human emotions, understand a variety of words, have concepts of colour and shape, can follow a pointed finger and recognise self when looking in a mirror, one of only a few animals that can (whales, dolphins, crows, elephants, dogs and people). Dogs have different barks that are understood by other dogs, and when you live with them long enough, people can also understand them, plus when barking at a human, they bark differently in Spanish speaking countries than English speaking ones, with some dogs displaying bi-lingual abilities in mixed speaking households.

Cat people claim that dogs are less intelligent because they can be trained. Does that make cats more intelligent than McDonald's staff? Oh, ok, probably does, doesn't it?

A teacher appeared in Nottingham Crown Court yesterday accused of attacking a never ending trouble making 14 year old yob.

It reminds me of W C Fields great saying

One of the nicest experiences I have felt is to have a cat purring on my knee, does that make me strange or just deprived, no I do not mean depraved!
Well, not always anyway!
But I must admit I do prefer a dog and not in the way those Asian geezers do!
A dog always appreciates you, no matter what a dickhead you have made of yourself!

Careful old chap you are beginning to sound reasonable or is that just the effect of the cat purring on your lap.

For me a pussy on my lap can calm as well as excite so I have to be careful and remember which one it is.

Ha! Ha! Lynton, I really was at my calmest with a cat on my knee, but it has to be a she cat.
People tend to think I am strange everywhere I go, but I am the sanest person here!
