This is a World Cup thread dedicated to the World Cup.
God, I love the World Cup.

There's always an upset in the first round games. Wonder who will be knocked out this time. I'll have to go look up the listing of the groups to see where its all at.

I'll be right back in a few minutes.

England will draw with USA in their opening match.
Been impressed with USA in recent times. Much more focused and tough than previously.

Expect Portugal to go bonkers and totally blow it in Group H. No discipline those boys. Should be funny seeing Drogba Versus Ronaldo in that group. I predict many sendings off.

Would be lovely to see Kim Jong iL run naked onto the pitch in North Korea's match against Brazil. I'll put a bet on that.

Predict Madadona will be sent of from the touchline in the Nigeria match.

More Jesus Budda predictions to follow.

Is Madonna going to manage one of the teams then? That would be jolly. Also Lady Gaga and that woman who gets her kit off in the video.

Seriously, I don't suppose "Madadona" would be able to get his dog through customs, even if he wanted to after it savaged him, so no pets for him I guess. Actually, I'm not sure they'll let him in either, as I'm sure he's rabid.

The hand of god will come to the assistance of Scotland's favourite foreign player once again.

Opening day at Fenway Park. Sox come from behind to beat world champs NY Yankees 9-8 in front of sold out crowd (again). Lots of beer consumed. No one Beat Up. No Yobs on street. No one tripped up. No one kicked in NUTS.
No OFF HANDED goals.

Good Luck to everyone in S. Africa...be safe, have a good time!

Best to the UK!

Go Sox!

Guys, guys...come on now...

It's the WORLD Cup.

All the WORLD takes part - even your mob.

Your idea of a WORLD Cup is the Yankees against The Red Sox, or The Cowboys against The Raiders.

Spread your wings gentlemen.

There is life outside the USA

Actually, when England play the US in their first game, half of America will playing frisby in the park or surfing in California and gambling in Vegas!

Yes, the World Cup is for the World.
It should be rejoiced. And loved. And hugged.

I think England have their best chance to win the World Cup in years. But they will fuck it up because:

- The press will start at them again (and we all know how sensitive the England players are, just look at that John Terry and his recent form - although he's starting to get his mojo back slightly).

- They can't take penalties.

- Small penises.

I wish the American spoofers would take a bit more interest in their lot. USA have developed a back bone and they've learned to kick, and punch and cheat. I do think they will draw with England in their opening match.

Argentina are the ones to watch. Shit qualifiers but thats they way they were in 1986 and then they won. I think they might have been the same in 78 too.

I'm gonna put a bet on Maradona getting arrested for slappng a South African midget. The man has already got bitten in the face by a dog so the chances are that it could theoretically happen.

More predictions and crap to follow...

Why the fear of football?
The World Cup is different and special. There are no hooligans and troublemakers (generally). it is all good, clean (dis)honest fun.

There is skill. There is the pride of many nations. There are balls. Lots of balls. And grass. Lots of grass.

Here's one prediction that you can bet the house on:
The opening ceremony will be shit.

The most laughable opening ceremony but the most memorable was USA '94.
Who can ever forget the sight of Diana Ross in high heels taking a penalty, missing the goal posts by a mile and then the goal posts spectacularly exploding apart!

More predictions:

GROUP A:
South Africa
Mexico
Uruguay
France

South Africa are bad. See them at the Confederations Cup last year? Bad. The only exciting thing about them is the fans shouting 'Boooo!' every time that Booth guy touches the ball.
Will they scrape through to the second round? Maybe.
Would be a surprise to see France knocked out. They can be incredibly shit when they want to be. Remember when they got knocked out in the first round in 2002? And they lost the first game to some crappy country in Africa I can't think of the name of just now.

I don't like the World Cup mascot either. He's shit. Then again that 'Ciao' chap from Italia '90 was a Lego dickhead.

Well, with commentary like this, I'm starting to get interested!

Just wake me when it's time for the winning penalty kick!

I'll do my best to follow this thread.....it's probably the only thing that can knock Cole, Patterson, Ricky, Posh and the rest out of the top stories!

Write On!
