Just watching the local news.

Apparently UK hospitals have been inundated with victims of slipping on ice and breaking limbs.

It's like watching 'You've Been Framed'

Went down on one knee and my hand today meself, slipping on ice.

If these old codgers, and young console gamers played a bit more football they'd know how to cushion a fall.

Look at Didier Drogba, he falls all the time, but he never ends up in hospital.

I don't know....

Skoob.

I fell on my ass today.

I was carrying lasagne at the time.

I'm ok though, and the mule will still star in the village play.

Lasagne was a bit of a mess though........

I'm thinking of buying a big mountain goat and tethering it up by the door so I can ride it up the shops when I go to buy ale.

Cheaper than a taxi.

Won't whinge like the wife.

More sure footed than me.

Just a thought.

Skoob: on a serious note me and the Mrs. always had 'ice grippers' to slide over the odd pair of rubbers in Maine...she showing real estate, me on the construction site....saved our ass, and a lot of broken hips etc....

Please be advised, the rubbers mentioned refer to those items place on one's feet in a wet environment....would't want to be responsible for any unforseen medical emergency....

Skoob / Morse, if you're going to Bristol make sure you go to 'The Wellington' in Horfield. Not only is it within spitting distance of the Memorial Stadium, but it sells the best beer in the world (in my humble opinion), Bath Ales 'Gem'.

Oh to be there now............

Gives new meaning to the term "Extreme French Ticklers".
Perhaps there's a market for the leather-clad and heavily pierced.

They all said it was worth the 'points' though....

My wife is scary.

The mountain goat probably won't beat the shit out of me when I'm not looking.

Happy Days.

Hello Skoob,

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger over there on the Lonely Isle,

An Ice storm started here @ 1630 yesterday and lasted all night. We had one similar to this 2 weeks before Christmas last year. This one is much worse.

Just back in from rescuing a brand new camera we just put in last week to combat illegal dumpers at our Compactor area (a 42 yard box attached, holds approx 13 tons when full). An ice coated tree limb from a huge maple tree took the $480. camera out. Doesn't look too damaged though as it hung up in the limb's branches but it did hit the ground.

The weirdest things is listening to Ice cubes raining down. It's the eeriest sound I've ever heard. Thank God a fellow I know gave me a hard hat after last year's storm. It saved me from some nasty cuts this year.

This storm is worse than the last one. It's now pouring rain and warming up, ( a few degrees above freezing). The winds are blowing briskly with gusts over 30 MPH. The last ice storm took three days before it rained ice-cubes and the ice was much thinner. Our Community looked like a somebody fired howitzers through the trees. We actually had our snow plowing contractor plow off smaller branches and limbs this time. Another crew is cutting up the big stuff with handy dandy chain saws.

The electric Co. has half of our Community powered down. An 8400 volt main line snapped. Thankfully it broke cleanly at the transformer. What was on the ground wasn't 'live' but I had to chase a couple of guys away. Thank God no one was hurt. The utility pole is on fire though. Those electric Co guys know their stuff. They know where the main breakers are and simply cut off the top of the pole with a chain-saw to solve the fire problem and re-splice the main wires around the insulators.

Thankfully, I'm on the other side of of our Community and on a different 'main' line. I call my side the 'Light Side' and the other the 'Dark side'.

I did electrical works years ago and have enough sense to leave this stuff to the pros who know high voltage.

Soooo....my clothes are in the dryer (third time today) and I'll try to avoid going out again. Slight chance there...I'm on the Board of Directors of our Community and folks here expect that I will be out in this crap for as long as it takes to clean up this damn mess. And, NO, I don't get paid a plug-nickel for it. It sure ain't worth dying for though. But as my Grandmother used to put it, "If you're born to be shot....you'll never be hung'...I only wish life was that simple.

Thanks for listening to this wee bit of a rant. Just one more trip though methinks.....I think I'll have to call out the contractors to plow off the damn ice-cubes.

Be as well as you can with your own damn ice-cubes,

Jim

PS: On a positive note: The streets here look like they're paved with crystal. Quite a beautiful sight as are the trees in their icy winter coats.

Global warming troubles us all.

But going to the extreme of causing an ice storm to collect $500 insurance on a camera! Shame on you senachie!

Actually.....our Ins. deductible is $1000.00. The last camera was destroyed in the Ice storm last year. A cheapy at 200 or so bucks. Lousy resolution. This one can read License Plate #'s. (hopefully it's not destroyed). We will now have four cameras there and 4 more coming at the entrance to our Community.

But like Al Gore inventing the Internet, I invented ice-storms just for this purpose! LOL

But Hey! It was you Brits who pioneered cameras (Glasgow, I believe) in public places. A darn good thing that is; even if 'Big Brother' is always watching. Biggest drawback ....going through real-time DVR recordings. Luckily for us....it's pretty easy to know when something is amiss by obvious actions of our wonderful Members or illegal dumpers here. One thing the cameras have done though...is curtail that illegal dumping. We've cut down over 20 tons per year of this stuff in the last two. Cost per ton for disposal: $60.60 plus a bunch of transfer fees. A nice piece of change along with the fines we have issued. This is a small Community...every little bit helps. Now if I could only train some hamsters to recycle. Probably cut down another 20 tons per year. That's just wishful thinking.

I wish I could take the credit for inventing Whore Houses...I'd be too occupied to bother with this crap.<< I know the 'real' inventor is on the 'Spoof' somewhere? Probably Bargis or one of his Ladies of the 'Spoof' Night! LOL

Thanks for the hearty Laugh.....it was good medicine.

Be well,

Jim

PS: I've lived in this neck of the woods for the last ten years. I've been coming here also for twenty some. The ice storms are new (started about three years ago). It used to be all snow here. Even stuffy Al Gore does have some good points on that Global Warming stuff. Now we spend more on spreading 'anti-skid' (washed) stone than we do on plowing snow. You Brits call your wonderful stuff 'grit'. I get a kick outa that....'True Grit' indeed! LOL

PSS: Total cost for cameras to date: just a tad over $4700.00. A good investment so far...

Another hearty laugh! And we have cameras to prevent dumping! Gotta be some ironies there somewhere!

Be well in dumping off whatever the Holidays have foisted upon Ye,

Jim

A Merry happy, healthy and prosperous New Year to you and yours also.

The cold in Hazelton would be the least of it. A group of High School football players, on their way home from a community block party, (in Shenandoah, 20 miles south of Hazelton) beat an illegal Mexican immigrant to death. 3 were charged with various crimes including 3rd degree murder and degrees of assault. Two were convicted of simple assault by a jury. 4 Police Officers have been Indicted by a Federal Grand jury for destroying evidence and a cover up.

The two convicted of 'simple assault' have been charged with Federal 'Hate' crimes which could lead to life in prison should they be convicted in Federal Courts.

The sickest part of it all is how corrupt every day citizens were in protecting these 'HS football players'. Those kids are sacred cows to every joe and jane rot-gut 30 pack drinkers in these parts. Corruption abounds here from the simplest of folks to sitting Superior Court Judges also Indicted on Federal Charges.

Avoid Pa at all costs should another offer come your way. The corruption here is astounding; from top...to bottom feeders.

The following link is to the Fox news story dealing with the new Indictments. (two weeks ago)

Be well in your New Year's celebrations,

Jim
