Just watched this snippet from Bang Goes the Theory: Human Power Station which is broadcast tonight 20:00 BBC1 (so I'll be watching it about 21:00 when it plops up on the iPlayer
)I expect it's only accessible in the UK I'm afraid, but for those in the UK, click here to watch it. I hope it gives more facts and figures in the actual programme, but the clip shows 80 cyclists powering a house, and the man of the house takes a shower, which really puts a strain on the cyclists - not to mention the effect of him stipping off! |

That's pretty fascinating. In the US we could use that idea. With over 12 million illegal aliens lurking about, in no time we could solve our energy dependency. Plus, put thousands of Americans back to work building bicycle/generators. Brilliant!

Mark,
Since you're the expert on the subject...how many bicyclists were necessary to power up the vibrator for the Mrs.? |

How about hydroelectric power?
I've installed a dual reservoir system in my hotel room. Water drains from the upper reservoir to the lower through a narrow, high-pressure opening, turning a turbine that supplies most of my electricity needs. I use an exercise bike to pump water back to the top reservoir. It's great, but I left my lights on when I went to London, and ended up having to pedal almost that far to make up the difference. Maybe I should get smaller reservoirs. |
