More people participate in angling than any other sport so statistically........

We're only two posts in. Same as yesterday. Give me a break or I'll have to make the questions harder.

Yes, angling is the most popular participation sport on the planet. That's true. But dangerous? Sitting by a river with a couple of cold ones, listening to the radio?

You sure about that?

Skoob.

I would imagine it depends on your definition of dangerous. I have plumped for boxing, as I don't think one person comes out of it without some sort of bruise/cut/facial alteration/dead (delete as applicable).

Obviously people die in motor sports, but many more don't.

People have probably died fishing (boredom most likely), but many many more didn't.

And I personally don't class basejumping as a sport. Bloody stupid? Yes. Sport? Nah!
If you want to launch yourself off of Beachy Head strapped to a bed sheet, then you deserve what's coming!

In my humble opinion.

Nick,

I'll give you a clue.

It's fishing.

True.

People get swept off their feet and drown in fast flowing rivers, they hit power lines with their fishing rods, they get washed out of boats, etc. In some countries, as Bargis once so eloquently pointed out, anglers get attacked by bears, mountain lions, hippos, crocs etc.

This is some dangerous shit we're talking here.

I get my fish up the chippy.

Much safer.

Having another coughing fit. (True)

But over the worst of it.

Skoob,

Further to your post, I settled on Base Jumping.

Am I right?

Am I, am I...............................

I still maintain boxing is more dangerous than fishing per se.

All the statistics in the world will not convince me otherwise.

So there!

You were nearly right.

In fact you were spot on mate.

But not in a 'correct' kind of way.

You just made me laugh

Boxing more dangerous?

Yes, I guess that you can get some really mean paper cuts from all of that cardboard. You could also get a really harsh slap in the face when closing the flaps, or drop one on your foot (though it would only hurt if it had something in it).

Did the person that got the package enjoy their new seven fingers?

I'll bet your cousin enjoys all of the money savings on manicures and nail polish.

You ever box?

I tried it.

I floated like a brick and stung like a canary.

All I really remember about it is my head getting thumped hither and yon. And broken teeth.

I leave the boxing to the experts.

Aside from the legendary Ali, my favourites were Marvin Hagler (a true champion) who really beat Sugar Ray Leonard (the finest pound for pound fighter I ever saw.)

The man from the Valleys, Joe Calzaghe's a top bloke and fighter too. I hear Manny Pacquaio's good. Must check him out. (Hope I got the spelling right, if not, any fight fans will know who I mean.)

Ricky 'The Hit Man' Hatton - he's a City fan.

Nuff said.

Skoob,

I must admit I have never boxed. But this just adds fuel to my argument.

You have boxed once and 'All I really remember about it is my head getting thumped hither and yon. And broken teeth.'

I have been fishing twice (once sea fishing, once trout fishing) and came back totally unscathed.

So which is the more dangerous?

I do actually know Joe Bugner's son (Joe Jr.funnily enough) he lives nearby and comes in my local now and again. Nice gentle giant of a bloke.

Wouldn't argue with him though.

I'll ask him if he's ever been injured fishing and let you know!

Boxing hurts.

It's painful.

The jabs are the worst. They sting. Big time.

I never got knocked down, only because I didn't pursue it for long enough. The people who did get knocked down told me that you don't really feel that shot. That you don't really know too much about it. It's the constant jabs to the head and the kidney punches that really cause the pain.

Then comes the sucker punch and it's goodnight Vienna.

But fishing really is more dangerous.

Mind you, when somebody is punching you repeatedly in the face, walloping your ribs, and butting his head into your face, you tend to prefer fishing.

Regards

Skoob.

PS My nose is intact. Unlike my teeth and my eyebrows.

I lived in S. America for 4 years and went fishing for piranha. You have to bash the water with the pole as if something just fell in and if you are lucky they take your bait in the frenzied curiosity or out of sheer disappointment of no cow or tapir.

Careful though when you swim there another little sod about 2" long that creeps up your willy and digs in with its gill spines

Scoob you are dealing with spoofers - think of those strange retentive brains they have. The only reason they aren't all off at pub quizzes is that nobody lets them play anymore

Good point that. Never really thought of it that way.

Must make the questions more difficult.

Either that or forget the whole deal.

Fishin is the most dangerous--but not cause more poeple do it.

It's fucking boring.

Boredom kills almost as many people as pissed off spouses.
