"Stefan Gatward has been wrestling with inner turmoil ever since the Birmingham city council began removing the apostrophes from the city's signs this January.

Finally, his frustration was too much to bear, and Stefan took it upon himself to fix the signs. But he didn't stop there …

He will not join the 'five items or less' queue at the supermarket, in protest that the sign should read 'five items or fewer'.

He also gets annoyed when people-neglect the 'Royal' in 'Royal Tunbridge Wells', and was vexed when he saw a major chain store advertising sales with signs saying 'until stocks last' rather than 'while stocks last'.

'I fought for the preservation of our heritage and our language but some people seem happy to let that go. I'm not,' he said."

The story said it took place in Birmingham. Is that another name for Pattay?Or does MW have a long lost grammatical Nazi twin in the deep south?

MB,

There should have been two spaces between your question mark and the beginning of the next sentence. You should also note that "or" is a conjunction and sentences should never start with a conjunction.

J-Man,

Try: "One should always use two spaces between a question mark and the beginning of a new sentence. Furthermore, the word "or" is a conjuction, which one should never use to begin a sentence, unless it's part of a quotation."

Tee hee hee,

I wrote about this guy in my story "Apostrophe Apostacy." Toward the end of my story, I began to type errors in grammar.

Mark, being a sharp-eyed editor, corrected the errors and ran the spoof.

Then, he sent me a PM apologizing for correcting the errors because he had figured out they were "part of the joke."

Unfortunately, the corrections came too late to save the Skoob, who was hospitalized after being shanked by Gatward.

And I had erased the original, and had to resort to my failing memory to re-write my own story.

Three cheers for Mark for being honorable enough to apologize to the spoofer. Showed great class, at least for a toe sucker!
