I heard a story many years ago about someone in - I think - Iran, who was severely disabled, but who was offered free medical treatment to repair a horribly twisted leg, so that he could live a life which would, at least, approach 'normality'.
He declined, saying he wouldn't be able to successfully raise any more money from begging. I agree with Dunc: they all have a kind of 'uniform'. They have the tatty rags, the dreads, the dog and cigs. "Hey, tramp! Eat the cigs. Or the dog." |
