........... Sergeant Adrian Underwood, of Leicestershire police, said some beggars are making £200-a-night tax free - which adds up to £73,000 for 365 days of the year.

He said: "On a good Friday or Saturday night some can make up to £200........

Street beggars on £200-a-night

Remember it's tax free.

A father and son duo here shares a knee brace for different shifts.

My favourite beggar's sign

"Want to go to Jamaica"

Who gives these people money? Why do they always have dogs on a rope? Why do they all have dreadlocks or silly beards?

There are some mugs about - it is illegal here to panhandle - I just give them the evil eye.

This could open a whole new thread.

A guy I knew was approached by a beggar (true story) in Basingstoke, pleading for change, saying: "I haven't eaten in three days..."

Response:

"Force yourself."

You bastards are keeping me awake and I have work in the morning.

Regards. Signing off.

I heard a story many years ago about someone in - I think - Iran, who was severely disabled, but who was offered free medical treatment to repair a horribly twisted leg, so that he could live a life which would, at least, approach 'normality'.

He declined, saying he wouldn't be able to successfully raise any more money from begging.

I agree with Dunc: they all have a kind of 'uniform'. They have the tatty rags, the dreads, the dog and cigs.

"Hey, tramp! Eat the cigs. Or the dog."
