I Think capital punishment for the 100% guilty is great, and i dont know why it is not in all states of USA.

Any of you people read " In Cold Blood " .

actually, i did read "in cold blood", and saw the movie, too.

truman capote was an opportunistic prick given to lies, exaggeration and manipulation.

i also saw the movie "i want to live" (the original black and white version) on television as a young child

there have been literally hundreds of innocent people who were condemned to death then (generally much, much later) exonerated by dna evidence discovered by attorneys working with programs like the innocence project.

how would you suggest society finally give the wrongfully accused and convicted the justice they deserve if they have been executed?

in this country, you only get the amount of justice you can afford to pay for.

which means rich monsters like oj simpson walk while people like ron williamson are either executed, die in prison, or, in ron's case, are driven insane by the horrendous conditions in prison.

"when money talks, bullshit walks"

You have a valid point, but i see NO reason at all WHY 100% guilty offenders cant be done away with.

People who get caught with a smoking gun as such, or get caught rogering there kids, and fathering kids with them ,or kidnapping and then fathering kids with them.

PLENTY of 100 % guilty scumbags who, need a bullet or something.I saw 1 program about serial killers and, these 2 scumbags in the USA openly talked about the horrid acts they did..100 % guilty? YES.
Should be put to death ?yes?
!!Appeal ??? what for ??

Ah not seen the movie i want to live, i guess thats the same story as the book?

What makes you say truman capote was an opportunistic prick given to lies, exaggeration and manipulation.?

Not that i would know otherwise,i just thought the book was really good, for many reasons.

Amos,

Capital punishment is practiced by almost every country in the world. That in itself is not a justification of whether it is right or wrong, it is simply a fact.

You have to make your own determination within yourself whether you find it to be immoral or unethical. Then, if you live in an area where it is practiced and you do not believe in it, you have the opportunity to try to get the laws changed.

I personally favor the death penalty in cases of premeditated murder (especially in cases where multiple homicides or rape is also involved).

The problem with the death penalty stems from if you start executing innocent people !...People do get locked up wrongly, maybe not alot, but who knows? thats IMO anyway!

capote "befriended" the defendants because he wanted to write a best-seller

he lied to them and manipulated them repeatedly while relaying the information he was supposedly garnering on a confidential basis (for his book) to law enforcement

he admitted to rearranging facts and time lines to suit his purpose

people like truman capote give all journalists a bad name

"i want to live" was the story of barbara graham, a woman who was executed despite the fact she was most likely innocent

i would also refer you to the julius and ethel rosenberg case for prime examples of the reasons we should outlaw the death penalty

You ate a whole buffalo! I bet that left at least 25 Sioux indians without dinner for at least a week! What's a matter with you! Insensitive valet! No wonder the French stiff you with tips! I'm off to write a story about this! You'll be sorry! You'll have to read it! You won't be in it either, but maybe I'll put a piece in about some sloppy valet with greasy buffalo fingers ruining a leather covered steering wheel on a BMW.

just a heads up.........

"the people" refer to themselves as "lakota"

"sioux" is a repugnant term which was forced upon them by outside cultures.

i am not that well versed in the french language, but according the lakota people, "sioux" means snake in french.

to refer to someone as a "sioux" is a racial slur along the same lines of calling someone a whop, a dago, or a spic

unfortunately, i graduated from high school in sioux falls, south dakota, so i have to include the offensive word on every application i submit for employment, etc.

to make matters worse, we were the "washington warriors"

my youngest child is a "union redskin"

she never complains, but i am sure it damages her on some level, because she is half apache and an eighth cherokee

she is very self conscious about her looks and wants desperately to have blond hair and blue eyes like me

A few years ago there was this blow up about degradation of native Americans by having football team, baseball teams called 'Redskins' 'Warriors' 'The Chiefs' etc. Real politcal nice-nice talk that usually makes me sick. Here in Florida, Florida State University has a football team called the Seminoles, with an official team mascot who is dressed like a Seminole warrior, rides a horse, carrys a spear, and parades around the football field before each game to urge supporters on.

He is one proud looking Seminole! He's called Chief Osceola. Horse's name is Renegade.

When the politcal pressure came to bear, the actual Florida Seminole tribe said...'Hold your horses! We like that symbol and it stays! Period-End of discussion.

The Seminole Indians of Florida are the only native American tribe who has not (yet) signed a peace treaty with the US Government. I guess tehnically, it's just a real long truce. Good thing, because the Seminole Indian tribes were never defeated.

This is just a rumour I heard, but apparently a bunch of gay Cowboys are suing the Dallas Cowboys football franchise for playing such a macho game, thus reducing the gay cowboys sensitivity image before the American public.

Just what I heard.

Thanks for the great info about the Seminoles.

I remember there was a lot of controversy, too, about the 'Tomahawk Chop' used by the Atlanta Braves and other sports' teams. The overall flavor of the chant and chop together does seem pretty racist.

Honestly, I think people are often unaware that there is a racist connotation to the things they do and say.

Nevertheless, considering everything native Americans have endured, why to take away a football celebration they enjoy just because other people think it's racist?

I'm curious, Buck, what you think about something.

I'm a huge fan of Warner Bros. and MGM animation, particularly that of the 1940's.

I think this cartoon is clearly racist:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOkDNTq-638&feature=channel

I think this cartoon is not so racist:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUpJ5a968u0

In the second, I see caricature, to be sure, but I also see a celebration of black culture.

Cartoons like these are all based on exaggeration, so I don't believe for one instant that cartoon makers were trying to suggest all white people are as dopey as Elmer Fudd.

Care to comment, BuckwheatsButt or anyone?

Not me SFO.

I live in a multi-cultural society.

I thrive in a mixed race marriage.

I quietly get on with my life and I take care of my family.

With all due respect, this stuff should have been consigned to the garbage bin of history years ago. If people just got on with life and stopped trying to find something, or someone to rail against, then the world would be a better place.

Agreed?

Agreed. I'm just curious.

It's just that the cartoons were banned. I actually never thought I'd get to see them, but they're all at YouTube now.

I've only recently discovered them, and have found the assessment of "racism" a little harsh for some, and wanted some feedback, that's all.

I've been in several mixed-race relationships myself. That's part of the problem - why do we even have to call them "mixed race?" All involved were human beings, which is one race, if you ask me.

I adore the multiculturalism of San Francisco. It's not a cross section of the USA, it's a cross section of the World.

I don't like blatant racism. But still it's all around everywhere and you would just have to shrug some of it off and get on with getting on.
The old cartoons, the old radio shows, and movies did have some racist and sterotyped moments, During the 1920s-30s-40s 'black face' entertainment was a mainstay of alot of American society. It some ways it allowed black entertainers to pass the line into lucrative entertainment careers. But undoubtedly lead to sterotyping and limited roles.
Black Face Traveling Minsteral Shows played in my hometown in the 1950's and I lived in the Yankee north at that time. They weren't hateful, just funny. But today it would be offensive and rightly so. I believe we've passed that point on insensitivity and embraced responsibility and better ways to express humor.
Many ask why I chose the writer's name BuckwheatsButt...I thought the funniest characters on the Little Rascals was Buckwheat and Stymie too! They were a friggin hoot! They had good comedic timing, a twang of good common sense, and they made us kids laugh. Never once did you think that they were differant, they were just kids too. Too bad both died penniless and forgotten in later years.

It's just a joke SFO.

You were right behind me in the ratings, and then you were right behind me in the forum. I felt like I was being followed, paranoid as I am.

However, I think you have overtaken me, so now I may be the one right behind.

Then you'll understand where I'm coming from. It's no big deal.

Thank you!

As I mentioned on another thread, I'm proud of that story.

Even without Rob Pattinson or the man with the world's largest penis, and even though it's a spoof of a current news story with a hint of an environmentalist's sarcasm, it still had a pretty good run.
