Why automatically assume that the hole is 'round'?

If it's 1cm from the edge, assuming that this is a given, then the 'hole' must be square.

Like a window.

Not a porthole.

And the size of the 'stick' is irrelevant...unless it's bigger than the hole, in which case, it wouldn't fit.

And even a round hole, 1cm from "the edge" could just as well have a diameter of 7mm. It would be correct in that it would be 1cm from the edge.

Is the hole central to the square?
Is the stick natural or man-made.
What shape is the stick?
Is there any tolerance allowed?
