Bottom line is that we're all a bit mad.

We must be, to be here.

Is it too much to ask that people just get along, without the jibes?

For God's sake - we write silly stories.

That's about it really.

If someone has an idea, or somebody opposes that idea - does it really have to degenerate into a fiasco?

It's bloody ridiculous.

I'm all in favour of a bit of healthy competition - but sometimes it goes too far.

Discuss.

Thanks Philbert.

We should be supporting each other, not doing whatever it takes to be top dog.

Especially at others' expense.

I've already had a rant about that, so there's no need to expand on it.

There's a fine line between banter and abuse.

Skoob

I agree with hydrogen balloon. (I'm fluent in Spanish, ya know!) It's why a lot of writers stay out of the forums. Because, it is a fine line.

But, as for me, due to the memior I'm writing on a very difficult subject, I'm feeling very un-funny. Maybe that's why the competition that is sometimes evident here drives me crazy. And, I'm fairly new.

It's hard writing comedy. It's why comedy writers generally write in groups or pairs. In my own personal comedy writing, I have a partner. But, I don't consult him with anything I write for the spoof. I try to write things that would be worthy of the Onion, and sometimes I succeed. Other times, hmmmm....I'm not so sure. It makes my writing partner laugh but only because we have the same sense of humor.

Ellie,

If somebody's laughing, you're winning.

That's what it's all about. (The laughing, I mean.)

OB&G Cover Charge?

Never for our satirical writer friends in good standing. (That means you've paid your last bar bill).

I believe we're about to post a new set of bar and restaurant specials soon. Keep on the look out. Skoob's Bathtub IPA will be featured, as well as Godiva's Gimlets.

Let's all tell bad limericks and drink heavily and realize that we have more in common than not.

Kumbaya anyone?

Kumbaya anyone?

PM

...is that anything like bunga-bunga?

I don't care, just need to know if I need to bring protection....

I don't care if you said there was no 'cover' charge...these are dangerous times..

I never broke down that word into syllables before, and that, my friend, led to a pretty long belly laugh.

Yes, I apparently am, a dirty old man.
Though I will follow the rules of social decorum whilst in the company of ladies.

...I think it's Ebonics.....Erskine & Doc Nicholas would know after their
adventures and studies in the wild...I know Doc said it wasn't his best pick up line in Vancouver when he got back , but it worked in Newfoundland on a fishing trip....

That is bloody hilarious - when spoken in a Welsh accent.

OK - so I am a bit slow to pick up on things sometimes.

I have 'Sometimers' disease. Excusez moi mes enfants!

I remember a life changing episode of Father Ted that taught me all about perspective.

It was the Irish Dancing in the Caravan episode, but that wasn't the life changing moment.

The life changing moment was when Father Ted was explaining to Father Dougal about how small things that were near to you could sometimes be bigger than far away things.

I found the teaching to be profoundly life enhancing and I apply it to most situations.

However, I do agree with the OP.

As a Socialist, I agree that we should be fair and nice to each other. Sadly, we cannot control our need for commupance, but I do hope we still can be fair and equal. Equal. Vote Socialism in France.

To put things in perspective you need a vanishing point.
